"Fastropes" idea (really!)
Ok please, before you start laughing, read the entire post.
This method could use existing spawn and entity creation coding, it's not really what one would consider "Fastropes," its more like an emulation of what they truly are.
In the Sandbox mod for Battlefield 2, you can spawn large models, basically any model you want. In PR, you can build firebases and foxholes that have various degrees of height, dirt, etc.
Here is my idea: Have the certain blackhawks equipped not with a crate, but with invisible textures with grappling hooks on them. When the pilot presses the "crate drop" button, instead of crates dropping, invisible models drop that have the height of the blackhawk. On these models is the grapple model and entity to allow access pressing "e" to get on it. Obviously it's not perfect, and it's not completely reliable, but it seems possible to me.
When the pilot drops the "Fastropes," the other occupants of the Blackhawk press "e," and bail out. They all bail at exactly the same place so they fall above the grapple. They press and hold "e" again until they grab the grapple, and from there, they can shimmy down it just like a regular grapple hook. After approximately 5 seconds of no active entity remaining on the grapple, the model is deleted.
Would it work?

Been suggested. EVERYTHING CONCERNING FAST ROPES HAS BEEN THOUGHT OF. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE A SYSTEM THAT WORKS, CODE IT YOURSELF AND THEN SHOW US THEN BASK IN THE ADULATION OF YOUR PEERS.

i like the whole idea of fastropes in PR but what i dont see is why people will use them, i mean it is just as easy to land and every 1 press e and get out. plus a hovering BH is what RPGs and techys look for. but it would be cool if it were possible.

Seriously, did you use the search function?Sgt.Smeg wrote:Seriously though, all the Devs had to do was strap the grapple hook to the chopper....![]()

Of course I did. I can find no posts that claim to use this method. All I see is "I think fastropes is a good idea!" I don't see why everyone thinks this is so impossible.Sgt.Smeg wrote:Seriously, did you use the search function?

lol this was one of the first fastropes suggestions for PR explanation, which in theory sound sgood but reality no. Search project reality fastropes on youtube (not hitler)

Exactly as I said, why does this come up like this?
How would it work? When you drop the grappling hook, what would it do? It would drop. Or do you want it to somehow stay in place? I still don't understand how you even suppose it to work. Spawning objects isn't the problem, remember.

How could the height of the ropes stay consistent with the elevation of the chopper? Not possible.

Re: "Fastropes" idea (really!)
They can't, and they're not supposed to. The helicopter hovers, and as soon as the occupants hear the ropes deploy, they immediately hit "e." If they wait even a few seconds they'll have to stay with the chopper, or risk falling 20-50m. The grapple hook can be set to use a variable distance "hook" to catch someone in the vicinity of it, therefore the rope would not have to be at an exact location in relation to the helicopter.EazyCurrE wrote:How could the height of the ropes stay consistent with the elevation of the chopper? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT AND DELETE IT< BURN IT< NUKE IT< AND NEVER LOOK BACK UPON IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: Ropes thrown from choppers stick to the air, and they dont hold on to the chopper. It wont work. Stop obsessing over something that wouldnt make sense in PR anyway. In ARMA sure, here, not so much. Now kill this thread please devs before i start to bleed like its that time of the month.... (Actually theres nothing funny about that. I apologize to all the woman in the world).

Please actually read the entire thread. The ropes aren't thrown from the chopper, they are part of an invisible model. They don't need to hold on to the chopper.ralfidude wrote:LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT AND DELETE IT< BURN IT< NUKE IT< AND NEVER LOOK BACK UPON IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: "Fastropes" idea (really!)
The way the crates work and the grappling... ah im not gonna explain, sorry, its been thought of before. Lets just leave it at that. The devs can either agree to just lock it, or they will explain why and then lock it. i know they will laugh so hard upon seeing one more of these though, lol. I know i did. Look no ofense snares or anything, im just saying, if you search, there are PAGES and PAGES of these... This one has been brought up.

Re: "Fastropes" idea (really!)
That would work, by "spawning" a model on right click (similar to the crate). Except it wouldn't look good. If it's not connected to the chopper, then you could just drop a floating rope that people would be able to climb up...
I also really hate the people that don't have any experience with coding, and they just say "hardcoded" instead of the reality of "Hard-to-code"
It can WORK, but it will look terrible.

Someone else can explain exactly why this is impossible but trust me we've tried everything really we have.

And seriously, people, no need to be overly rude, even though it might be a resuggestion. Warnings handed out.
