Weapons: Ammo

Post by mooneyno1 »

OK, so i had a quick look in the 'already suggested' thread and couldn't find nothing about this idea. So i personally think that 8~ magazines + the one that you already get when you choose your kit is a bit much ? It's stupid really as who uses all 8~ anyways ? I think they should be 2 or 3 magazines + the 30 or so already loaded. This in my opinion would lead to much better game play and makes you decide on how to use your share of ammunition.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I used ctrl & F to search for 'maga'. So what are your thoughts, I personally think this is a great idea and could allow more teamplay and will stop people wasting ridiculous amounts of ammo on someone they 'think they can see' somewhere in the mountains of Korengal Valley.

Thanks.

Eight magazines is the typical loadout for a regular NATO soldier, including the US Army/USMC, I am unsure about the Brits.

And I definitely make good usage of my eight magazines. What are you doing with your ammo?

I probably get through about 3/4 of them if im honest in one life. And i'm using them well. Maybe it might be standard in NATO/US soldiers but I dunno. I honestly find it hard to get through them all.

If you're found with any ammo on your body you deserved to die. Firefights are won by the ammount of fire put downfield.

As a USMC rifleman in Fallujah West, I've actually ran out of ammo suppressing fire on single shot. All 8 mags. Yes, I suppose it was a waste, but I actually saw tracers from a window and suppressed em.

as it is hard to get through the 8 mags sometimes.. i've had my times when i've used them all up huge maps like bi ming and your having firefights from mountain to mountain waiting for a chopper or a tank or something they really come in useful idk what i would do if i only had 3 mags..

you may not get to use them all because 90% of the time you might die before you have the chance to get through even one mag, but its the correct amount i believe and realistically its what people carry

I've had game where I've burned through 8 mags and I had games I've not shot one round during a life.

In most cases in which supressing the target will benefit you, not to mention that soldiers who are deployed overseas carry more than just 3-4 magazines.

By doing a quick search found this pic of a US Army Soldier

You can count there are at least 6 (plus the one in the gun) mags and possibly more in the back and under the gun.

9 magazines is actually a small amount. Its only 270 rounds, thats nothing.

as someone has already mentioned IRL you are issued around 8 or more magazines on active duty. that and those extra bullets are intended for just that, so you can throw some down range and hope the guy keeps his head down at long range, while someone else moves in closer for the kill.

oh and i've found myself out of ammo many times before, it usually happens when you play properly and stay alive for a long time while still getting work done for the team.

Minimum basic load per US regs for the M16 series rifle is 210 rounds; 7 magazines (1 in the well, 6 in the webbing pouches). If you notice, this is how many magazines are carried by the combat engineers and medics. Since the infantry kits (rifleman and NCO/officer) are the backbone they received two more magazines. On a patrol or assault (i.e., every map scenario in PR) grunts may carry up to and including twice that amount. We have received advice from bona fide active duty and recently ETS'ed combat arms personnel about these very things, many of whom have posted this information on these forums.

And yes, it has been suggested before.

actually that top row of magazines i think those pouches are double mag pouches, meaning they hold 2 instead of just one. might not be but if you look closely at the one on the far right i sort of see the silhouette of a second one behind it. so in all there are 9 on him and 1 in the rifle

I personally know that german soldiers i.e. in Afghanistan on Patrol take as many mags with them as they can Image
You see 6 double-mag-pouches (full), one in the G36 (often there are 2 clipped together) and some soldiers use to put an additional single-mag-pouch on the stock. I think soldiers from other nations carry as many mags with them, too.
Also, before you storm a building, or expect CQB, you should always reload! If you were in a short firefight and move on, reload. It often happens that I spend all mags.
