Smoke Code?

Post by goguapsy »

I was thinking about this (read somewhere).
It would be cool if people used smoke for siging stuff (ex. Helo extraction: green indicates LZ while orange/red indicates ABORT OMG ABORT ABORT!)

I dont think that would be used a lot in game (since its not that hard to type in CAPS ABORT ABORT ABORT! in team chat), but maybe it could be a lifesaver for helo pilots that didn't pay attention to the team chat, or at least the SLs name..

feedbacks maybe?

cheers everyone!

Especially the DEVs for making such a great mod!

Have you seen how long it takes for a good wad of smoke to appear? If you wanted to quickly tell a chopper pilot to abort with smoke, you better hope he's on the other side of the map still or by the time the smoke's deployed his chopper will be dead.

Really, smoke would be used a whole lot more if the stupid 3d map markers were taken out.

(IE, "Requesting immediate CAS West of the Smoke", "Extraction needed in E6 KP 7 by the smoke").

Otherwise you've got this magical spot on marker that can be placed at any time and seen right on the screen. Would encourage teamwork if the GLTD or some other rangefinder was reinstated with rangefinding capabilities, and makes sticking together as a squad imperative to get proper directions on enemy fire, and on getting to the proper destination.

Otherwise, what's with using smoke to abort a mission? What proof do you have of it ever being used as such, and why would anyone use it as such? :P

Amen to that. People should have to use their eyes after being given references on the required actions.

Its more realistic, its more skillful...and tbh its more fun.

Smoke would be used more if it built up more realistically.. Instead of getting nothing for 15 seconds and then a bunch of smoke it could build up over time.
The time it takes for smoke to fully deploy is probably realistic, but for the size of the game, only 4km maps tops, it's way too slow to use as signal smoke.

The only use it has is covering your movement, because then you have the time to pop it, sit still for two minutes to let it deploy, and then move.
When the helicopter is on the way, you don't have that kind of time.

Yea it can be useful, but most of the time the pilot will have a marker on you. Would be nice if the effect was not as large as it is for normal smokes, a smaller signal smoke would be a lot easier to use.

The smoke never seems to affect anything as far as I can tell. Pilots tend to ignore all smoke completely no matter how much I tell them to land on the goddamn smoke you retard.

Anyway, the green smoke is the same for all factions, it's your standard land/crates here smoke. On the other hand the secondary smoke has a unique colour for each faction, as far as I can tell it should be used to mark friendly positions to avoid blue on blue.

This also seems to be a suggestion, and it is not in the suggestion forum... :x

well it's not a "suggestion" is more like a game code. But I'll post the smoke things on the suggestions thread along with remove markers. Thanks everyone!
