Don't believe everything you see online. I have been running Vista 64 for about 2 years now. BF2 runs fine and I have used TeamSpeak, ventriol, and in game VOIP all at the same time and never had a problem.

Most mic problems happen out of no where or when you get new hardware.
Most the time when your mic or sound drops off the face of the earth it would be a video drive messing up the audio drivers or just some other windows update didn’t install right. List out your system specks and also check the following:

-start menu

-right click on Computer

- click properties

- go to hardware and device manager tabs/buttons

check to make sure nothing on the drop down tree is yellow (sign) or red "X"

do a little trouble shooting....

If you mic works in other games then the hardware works fine.

When was the last video card driver update you did?

Have you tried downloading updates for your audio drivers?

When you go to the sound mixer controls in vista and test the mic does it register?

Is the mic in vista set to the default device?

are you running BF2 and or BF2 PR in administrative mode? or in XP compatibility mode?

Silly question, but do you have the voip turned on in game? and if so is the volume turned up for mic?

Easy fix:

Right click Ventrilo/Teamspeak, then "run as admin". You will have to do this on each launch...

OR

Right click Ventrilo/Teamspeak, Properties, Compatability Tab, then check "Run as admin" towards bottom. Then just doubleclick the icon like normal.

If you don't do this, Vista will overide the Vent/TS with the BF2 VOIP.

Ok i have made a decision.
i am going too completly reformat my computer.
not just because of the mic problem.
its because my comp takes half an hour too start and is getting gradually slower and slower.
insted of vista i am gonna use xp insted.
because vista gives me problems

do you think this is a good idea?

No its not a good idea.

Did you try any of the things the past two people suggested?

If so what did you find and what are your system specs. If we do not know this then we can't help you. Your Pc can be running slow for 1,000 different reasons and 999.999% of them are fixable without a re-install.

I would not go back to XP unless you have a desire to be left out of support and updates on your OS.
With windows 7 rolling out and Vista in full production and getting better all the time there is no need to down grade yourself. If you get XP then kiss your 4GB or more of ram or hopes of having that much away.

IMO. Feel free to PM me with any questions or help needed.

Why would you think the problem is with Vista? Sounds to me like a Trojan or other virus had gotten hold of your OS and you have too many corrupted files. Probably have some registry errors too. A reformat would be the easiest and best solution in your case, but I would stay with Vista.

You will find people on both sides of the fence here, Vista or XP. Personally, after using Vista, XP seems so old and not so user friendly, but thats me.

PS... Do yourself a favor and turn Windows Auto-updater OFF. That **** will ruin the OS. Just go to MS site and DL the SP1 standalone installer. Any other "fixes" MS comes up with will be in SP2.

Here is a simple suggestion I found at http://www.noaudiooutput.com

Find the latest version of your driver, download it, uninstall your current driver and install the new one. After uninstalling the driver and reboot it to automatically reinstall it, the audio still may not work. Amazingly though, sometimes after putting the system in hibernate mode and coming back, the audio worked.

Hope it helps if it doesn't they have other suggestions.

Probably the best idea you have ever had.

I wouldn't revert back to XP as Vista and BF2 work just fine. It sounds like you didn't keep your system maintained and clean of trojans/viruses/adware/spyware etc. After the reformat make sure to run a good firewall, Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, and a virus scan at least once a week.
