pick your server wisely....

Post by willgar »

It seems that since the popularity of PRMM has risen recently (well since all the patches) there are more new players (good) but it seems less teamplay. Just tonight while playing on a newish server, only half the people on our team bothered to join squads, and many of the the squads seemed to consist of sniper+support. Three maps were effectively stalemate and little teamplay was evident,

What a waste.. i came to PRMM after getting sick of Bf2 (quake with camo) looking for a team game. ahh well, enough of my rant.. a question, is it possible to autokick people who are not in squads as a server script?

Also, which servers to people find more likely to be filled by team players and not vanilla refugee rambo's...

autokicking non squaders would be kinda anoying to those who are removed from a squad and dont relise it. Happend a few times to me. OR maximum of squads is reached but there all locked with like 2-3 players.

Yup.

I generally look here: http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php? ... showEmpty=

And then join the server with the most "faces" from the forums here. Works out quite well usually. Also Gloryhoundz often has some good teamplay going on. Particularly if you get in the habit of joining the GH TS [ts.gloryhoundz.com] and seeing who is about.

 Yeah to reinforcce the no teamplay post..I totally agree that the teamplay is slipping away...BUT I think we can be active as enthusiasts... INVITE people to join squads....Usually i can grab a couple of people..if they have voice, start talking,...ask them what they would like to do...give or take orders and follow up after you die..keep talking...

Good luck to us all

Yeah, things've been kinda sucky lately. Lots of bunnyhopping (which I know isn't really effective, but it's still sad that anyone would even try), people with obvious dolphin diving macros, TKing for vehicles, TKing for no reason, etc etc etc.

I have a suggestion,

How about setting up
"Official PRMM servers" around the globe?

PRMM Official US East,
PRMM Official US West
PRMM Official South America,
PRMM Official Asia East
PRMM Official Aussie
PRMM Official Gloryhound

These server emphasis on the Gloryhounds style team play,
The community defines the "GH Style" of play, and the Admins enforce the guidlines (or promote).
the players dedicated to these servers are known as PRos...

------------------------------------
This might solve
a. Lack of persistant servers
b. Lag due to connections
c. Lousy gameplay
d. Lack of publicity

------------------------------------
However, the PRMM Dev may not be able to setup all these servers (need $$). So it is up to the community to help setting up these servers at different regions.

Just a suggestion... :)

Yeah I agree that servers can be really hit and miss.... we really tried to standardise the server config with 0.3x so that at the very least, a default unmodified install had appropriate PR settings.

We are aware of the issues with unlimited kit and *really* hope we can do something for 0.4 to address that.

The official server thing is still a bit odd .. no matter how hard we try, it's really up to the willingness of the players to play as a team... but we're gonna keep trying to add stuff that will encourage teamwork. Althou kicking for no squad does get a bit extreme, I'm not opposed to the idea.

Rather than "official" servers, I'd thought about HARDCORE settings that had things like forced squads and such. Not sure what else would define it as HARDCORE now that we have standardised most of the settings.

We could incorporate forced squads, but have it a disabled setting by default, and server admins can turn it on.

The best solution is the simplest, what Braddock suggested, look for familiar faces. If you are new to the mod I guess you are kind of screwed since there aren't any familiar faces =P . I also say look for clan tags because that usually means team work. hop in a squad with some people with clan tags, stick with them listen to orders, and they will think "hey this guys pretty good" and keep you in their squad =D

another thing to do is to make "teamplay" or "teamwork" squads, or a "mic only" squad (if yo uhave a mic of course) because this will gather the people you are looking for.

Even on Gloryhoundz there's a large influx of Vanilla's after the 1.3 patch.
Servers used to be more fun on 1.22.
Tried to get my squad to flank the enemy but the only thing they could do was bash straight in and get killed. :-?

Hehe, a lot of the time tonite on GHz was spent informing the other squads (nicely) that they were indeed hanging out at the wrong flag and that we could use their help at the correct one...

When the War is Hell regular members are playing in our PRMM server, we always get into squads. When we get more pubbers on, then we split into our own squads and use Teamspeak to co-ordinate attacks and defenses with each other. We also split between 2 sides so that we dont' intentionally stack the teams.

So come check us out in the evenings. Oh, and the admins don't tolerate much asshatery. We try to keep the server clean for the enjoyment of everyone.

Similar to the War is Hell guys, us iGi always get in squads when we play. Last night our 50 man server was full for most of the night. Certainly different play when you have 50 players on! :) Usually most people squad up when on our server and we now get quite a few familiar faces on so they squad up too. But you are always going to get the lone wolfs come over from vanilla. There is nothing you can really do about it. Hopefully once they have played it for a while they will start to realise teamplay is the key in PRMM.

The only thing you can do I suppose is reward players heavily for being in squads with regards to points. I know at the moment you get 25% of squad members points, (and you used to get 25% of team mates points making it 50% total) but maybe since the .31 update that should be changed to 50% for squad members. That might persuade people to play in squads.

Trying an enforced squad system will only result in half empty servers.

I joined the USM server and though they seem to advocate squad and teamplay, I was seeing the exact opposite from a few of its members. The majority of the USM members on the server didn't even join a squad; one in particular was very obnoxious when we started losing.

I play on a server on vanilla called Tactical Gamer and it is the BEST server I have ever played on in bf2. It has the forced squad option on and kicks people after 60 seconds of playing if they do not join a squad. It tells you in the top left corner of the screen how much time you have left to join(or creat) a squad before you are kicked. It really helps the keep lone wolves out of the server where the name of the server is how we play "Tacitcal". Every squad has a purpose like a HELO squad, JET squad, and usually one SNIPER squad with 1 or 2 ppl in it. The rest form regular infantry squads and utilize armor and what not. I don't see why the auto kick would be a bad thing as it works pretty well for that server. Also, I was banned from War is Hell less than a minute after I joined and I'll tell ya why. I spawned and saw an enemy by our Cobra, so first instinct is to shoot at them, right? Well I did and I guess I was missing him and hitting our helo. Then a teammate jumped into the helo and the enemy blew up the Helo and I got credited with a teamkill and I was banned. I didn't notice that I had tk'ed and I doubt it would have mattered since less than ten seconds after that happened I was banned and have been banned ever since... NOT COOL!!!

i was lucky to get on a server the same time as some PR torney guys last night,
it was fun on mutuur city(sp?) but people kept stealling helicopters, and taking off by them selves.

the next map strike on karkland 2 dissolved into a sniper fest. the whole just seems to swap to sniper and support. the battle then turns into a stalemate, untill the LAV's spawns and charges across the bridge.

i think its not always the server but the map aswell, oh and one last thing timing is everthing, there tends to be more mature players on in the evening, after all the kids comming home from school have had their fix.

Hey, USM has some new recruits that haven't learned our ways yet. Members who aren't trained nor using teamwork arent supposed to be wearin our tags. If you see this again please bring it to my attention. If you notice in other posts we have been recognized as a very teamwork oriented group. http://realitymod.com/forum/showthread. ... 613&page=2 message from crotch rot and a few others. Please tell me who it was you saw in the server with our tags on, giving us a bad name, his tags will come off so fast, his comp will fry. MrD was banned for dissrupting our training, he's acts like a damn ********* if you ask me. Yup usually if you talk to a ********* it won't listen so I guess thats what he is.
