Common PR Crash Solutions

Post by Snares »

Other OS=All Windows Versions

From my research into these problems I have found possible solutions to two types of PR crashes.

1: As soon as you double-click the PR icon, you get "pr.exe has stopped working"

Solution: You do not have a "Profiles" folder in [My Documents]\Battlefield 2. Start vanilla BF2, log into or create a new profile, customize it to your liking (set video, audio, controls, etc.), and close BF2. Now try starting PR.

2: When you start PR, it goes to a black screen, sits there for a few seconds, then throws you right back to the Desktop.

Solution: Open [My] Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Video.con and change the line

VideoSettings.setResolution ####x####@##Hz

to whatever your Desktop resolution and refresh rate is. You can find your resolution and refresh rate by going to the graphics options in Windows (usually right click and select Properties -> Desktop -> Advanced -> Adapter -> List All Modes -> Find which line is highlighted in blue. For example, if you had a resolution of 1440x900 at 75 hz, your line would look like this:

VideoSettings.setResolution 1440x900@75Hz

If you have a LCD monitor:
VideoSettings.setResolution ####x####@60Hz
Set game to whatever your Desktop resolution is, but the refresh rate is 60Hz or below(some might be 57Hz).

I play on TeamPlayersGaming where it's all about the teamwork.

Note that most, but not all LCD monitors run at 60hz. Therefore it's best to check what Windows' refresh rate is set to.

Forcing resolution through shortcut made my game crash between almost every mapload after 1.5.
After removing the line in shortcut and setting widescreen resolution ingame, it stopped CTDing.
May apply to others...
