Very low FPS ratios.

Post by W4lt3r89 »

Well, i cant explain the problem much but when i start the game, it runs fine for about first 3-4 minutes at 30 to 60 FPS at medium settings but after that it drops to around 5 to 15 FPS from the original.

From my own perspective and own check's, it isn't a heat issue since my CPU and GPU both stay under 50 Celsius.
I just recently went to this OS and PR is the only mod that gives me this kind of trouble.

Specs -
MOBO - ASUS M3N78-EM
CPU - AMD 9950 Phenom Quad-core 2.6 GHZ
GPU - Radeon Saphire 3870 at 735 MHZ GPU clock and memory clock at 1126
RAM - 4 Gigs of Kingston DDR2 533mhz.
PSU - 600W Earthwatt.

I didn't have this sort of issues back in vista with 300W PSU.. Any kind of help is appreciated.
And to add to this, i suffer from long map load times (about 4 times as long compared to Vista and a AMD Dual-core 5200+ as CPU).

Backup your current Installation and reinstall windows and update it.
Then install only necessary programs and BF2 (of course, update Bf2 to v.1.5) + PR 0.874
If that doesnt work, try changing components unless you get an FPS boost.

''backup'' I dont have external HD to do that kind of thing.
Slight update. At best the game runs fine from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, then the FPS drop kicks in or is gradually dropping over the time.

I tried today also by dropping my resolution and everything to low (VD at 100% though) and to-no avail.

Also i updated my 3870 CCC software and it's drivers 2 days ago (9.9.2009) and there is no new windows 7 updates for me to download...
I am not into formatting my entire PC again and downgrade the OS to Vista (lost the serial to that anyway), so i dont really have choice but to stick with W7...

hey hello, something similar happened with my nVidia 275

I was playing for almost 30-45 mins and I started to see small squares of artifacts and minimun fps.. I thought It was the card cos its new, but it wasnt..

I actually solve it Deactivating from the drivers (catalist or nVidia) the "Overdrive" option..

cheerss !

Well, that is an option but feels sort of stupid to disable the overdrive that is supposed to improve performance of a PC component..
I'll test that later today, thanks for the suggestion chuck.

make sure that the system actually recognized all 4GB of ram
just because its in there does not mean the bios detected it correctly

maybe use a mem check tool like "memtest.exe" built in in Vista (therefore might be in 7 too)

You could try this:
If you have more than one cpu or 'core' you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through your shortcut by adding
AFFINITY 2
to your shortcuts 'target' string like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

You can also do it by hand with the Task Manager while PR is running.
Good luck
P.S. You have a quad core so you could try :
AFFINITY 3
AFFINITY 4
if AFFINITY 2 doesn't help.
Oh and try giving AMD fusion a spin.
Works really well for me (2 gigs ram)

Good luck

Well, tested gaming moment ago with overdrive turned off and my FPS was running smoothly at +60 for over about 2 hours from the beginning to the end.

And my BIOS has recognized the 4 GB's of RAM, checked it at BIOS when i putted the new PC together. I'll take a look at that AMD Fusion program as well. Cheers.

Thread can be locked now, problem solved.

Start -> All programs -> Catalyst Control Center -> CCC - advanced -> ATI Overdrive tab.

You might have to click the padlock to unlock the settings.

Uncheck Enable ATI Overdrive.

Gonna check if it worked for me now...

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I've just started getting this bug, with my new 4890 card, FPS starts nice and high, and then consistently drops... I've tried setting core affinity, but that was after the problem occurred, and it did not improve. ATI Overdrive is disabled too.

It seems like a CPU cache leak, or a memory leak, not an overheating problem for sure. Only seems to happen in bf2...

I'm testing other theories on this, but Punkbuster could very well be a cause, also, if you can... possibly test out dual core optimizer, if you have an AMD processor.

I've had various problems with DCO on w7, mainly with vlc player sound syncs, but I think it is well worth a try.

Don't run BF2.exe, the shortcuts, or PR.exe in ANY compatibility mode.
