pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
Hi there
I have search around in many forums and havent found a solution yet.
Its the same error in vanilla and PR. - LOCAL multiplayer works ok, so i guess its not a grfx problem.
I am updated with latest patches bf2/pr
When i join an online multiplayer session it CTD at once.
Debug error: "An exception 'Unhandled Win32 Exception' has occurred in process 2620"
I have updated XP, removed and reinstalled .net 2.0/3.0/3.5 finally no error when installing latest .net. PB is manually updated.
Help anyone?

Re: pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
This is the first time I have ever seen this problem reported...very odd. Usually the crash is right after the game starts, right after the map has completed loading, or while one is actually in the server, playing.
This leads me to believe that the problem stems not from BF2 or PR, but some sort of firewall or network driver that is creating a communication failure. I recommend checking your security software (if you have any) and ensure that BF2/PR is allowed to communicate with the internet. Also, you can try updating your network drivers...I don't know which NIC you have, so here are some links to various network drivers:
Realtek: Realtek
Marvel: Marvell: Consumer Driver Search
nVidia: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers (Select nForce; this includes drivers for the chipset and onboard NIC.)
I have no idea if this will work for you, but if nothing else does, you can try it (read "Resolution"): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811191

It is possible that some Windows files are corrupt. Press and hold the Windows key, then press the R key. In the window that pops up, type sfc /scannow. Note that if any corrupt files are found, you will need to put in your XP cd so make sure to have that on hand.sEi wrote:Thnx Snares

You didn't mention anything about security software or firewalls. Have you made sure those are functioning properly?

Re: pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
SFC scan found no corrupt files, and have tested disabling antivirus and firewall. Still no good
Hmmm?

Go delete the folders inside of * Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache, and if you haven't, update your graphics drivers.sEi wrote:SFC scan found no corrupt files, and have tested disabling antivirus and firewall. Still no good

gfx drivers updated, and deleted the cache and still no luck.
ccleaner have cleaned registry, and i have defragmented the disk
It have worked super over the years, but after a month pause with playing this error started. And i dont remember any install/uninstalls that could have broken it.
Again thnx for the information so far

Go to audio.con in my documents -> battlefield 2 -> profiles -> 000# that is your profile, open audio .con, paste this over the voip ones, side affect is you wont have voip.
AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 0
AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 0
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 0
AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 0
AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 0

BF2 unpatched works ok with multiplayer.
The problems start after installing bf2 patch 1.41, now half the time it has connection trouble when i try to join an online game, other half it goes CTD when trying to join.
Hmm

This has happend to someone on my friends list on Xfire called HannesFury, i have tryed everything with him to try and solve this but no luck, its strange because we can create a local server using Hamachi and that works fine, but when he trys to join online server it wont work. i think its somthing to do with firewall..

Re: pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
yeah Mike.
what happens for me is that when i try to join a server, the music fades, nothing happens (apart from sometimes i hear the sound of a window popping up) i ctrl+alt+del and i see the window named "BF2 Memory Errror", but i cant see the content of this error message. i've followed EVERY advice that i've found Anywhere in forums and BF2 error FAQs etc, etc. we have to find a solution!

Re: pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
downloaded a new 1.41 patch and that works ok.
But when i install the 1.5 patch it breaks again (have now tried downloading from 3 different sources 2gig each time) and will continue....!
The problem after installing 1.5 patch is that the servermenu is very slooooow and when i press connect i get ctd immediately, if not a connection lost msg.

Re: pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
SOLVED
solution: I deselected the checkbox in Compatibility mode.
HOW: Rightclick your BF2 shortcut select Properties, select tab 'Compatibility' and deselect the checkbox in 'Compatibility mode' - Click 'Apply'.
Server browser is still very slow but now i at least managed to run bf2 1.5 without CTD
I have no idea how this helps but it did the trick for me. Got the idea from here
Now i'll try to install PR (the reason to have bf2 installed anyway) - Hope it works.
Thanks for the help guys.

Re: pr/bf2 ctd start online multiplayer (local multi is ok)
I'm not sure if its the same problem that we have, it never works for me, either on the original build, 1.41 or even 1.5. It doesnt crash for me, it freezes, and i get the BF2 memory error. Same thing happens with the BF2 demo, apart from the error message.

I'm having the same problem on Win7. Nothing seems wrong, clean install but when I try to connect to a server just crashes to desktop without any error. I've tried all the fixes that even MIGHT help but nothing seems to work

I'm glad it worked for you, but for me, still nothing. and did the VoIP thing even. and i've played with And without compatibility mode @ XP, 2003, 2000. Tried running as Admin. Tried reinstall many times, Etc. Strangely, i'm determined to make it work.
