I had that lamp till I got pissed off about the fact that the light kept heating up the glass causing some serious hurt whenever I touched it, a few days later it went flying from my window.

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
gave another try to modelling

based on this one

i'm sure it can be heavily optimized, too high tri count for such model(ingame grenade lod0 is ~1100 tris iirc) me thinks

nice. Dont look bad, would need quite a bit of optimizing for the 3p mesh thou but that wouldn't be an issue.

thx
currently trying to unwrap it, not much to show though
will it need new unwrap after creating lods?
whats the overall steps create model->unwrap->lods->unwrap for lods? i hope its possible to use main unwrapping for all derivatives from main model
if there is a tut about it direct me pls, i couldn't find it

ye, LODs use the same UVs as the main mesh thou when making LODs you can some times distort the UVs and just needs a tiny bit of cleaning up while doing them

Bother this nonsense:
I'm a beginner in Modeling so don't laugh

Here's a Model I made ages ago, (I was a newbie back then as well).
I just took a long break from modeling and started again :3

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
digging through unwrapping now, what can i say, not the most fun part which sometimes becomes ->
:d uh:

what i have done so far

map itself

have some questions if you dont mind
this cone just blew up my brain, i think i tried everything, but cant figure out how teh hell unwrap it properly or it is ok?

this curved lines, i understand that its due to **** mapping, but does it make much sense fixing it or in this case it wont affect\can be fixed by final texture?

on bottom its even worse and here i guess i'll have to fix it anyway

cheers

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
Thanks
Well I have been doing a bunch of tutorials throughout my time on these forums but I have deleted most of them as I felt they were outdated. I am in the process of making some new ones but as my uni and PR work has increased they have been put low on the priority list.
Mostly my tuts now are these mini tuts that explain or help in specific areas: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... heavy.html
However I will give you the same advice that I have given a lot of other people;
tutorials
tutorials
experiments
tutorials
experiments
fail
cry
be stubborn
come back
learn from mistakes
tutorials
gain even more experince
Study references closely
Study some anatomy
experiment
tutorials
start from top
Never be afraid to try on new techniques, you will never learn everything there is to learn, there will always be more knowledge to gain.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to persevere, I can't count how many times I have been frustrated about something, but once you get over that hill the grass is much greener
This happens less and less frequently when as you get more and more comfortable with the basics, then you only need to be frustrated about a single new thing you are trying to learn.
Some good tutorials for getting started with game modeling are the Beretta 9000 tutorial or the 'Making a weapon for source' series. There are a few newer onces but I feel that these are the basics people should learn first if they wan't to learn about modeling for games that is...
For references google will always be your best friend, but here is a good thread for it too:

I've just started to try and learn modelling in 3dsmax and i decided to try something simple, i was going to start with doing the sa80 but i couldnt find any front reference pictures and it probablt isnt the best idea to start with something that detailed. Anyway i decided to try the m67 as its really simple and this is how it turned out.

Oh right my tri count is like 2000, a lot for that i know but i didnt try to minimize it and since it wont be used for anything it doesnt really matter. Just practice and all that

Hate to play devils advocate, but I got a grenade that looks just like that... Came from one of the free model websites.. For someone who just started to model. You sure made a really detailed grenade with only 2000 polies..Lan wrote:I've just started to try and learn modelling in 3dsmax and i decided to try something simple, i was going to start with doing the sa80 but i couldnt find any front reference pictures and it probablt isnt the best idea to start with something that detailed. Still WIP need to add the bipod, finish the thing that you lay your head on, and work on some details and the bolt action thing.
Tri count: 4,573
