Weapon sway in FH2

Post by Gosu-Rizzle »

Hey Guys

Lately i'we been playing a bit of Forgotten hope 2 (great mod, lots of fun :-) ) but i noticed something today. They have added weapon sway to their sniper rifles!
Correct me if im wrong, but i believe the PR devs have said weapon sway could not be done with the BF2 engine? Am i missing some obstical here?

The bullets still come out from the middle of the screen, it's just artificial etc.

It can be animated, however your bullets will still go dead straight from the centre of your screen.

So say your weapon has swayed slightly to the left, if you shoot at that point, you will still shoot as if your irons are pointing dead straight in your screen.

Damn ninjas.

Has been discussed before. Position of the reticule does not influence where the bullet will go.

they added sway so it will be a bit harder to hit with it if you are standing, crouch will reduce the sway and prone will remove it ;)

I really hope Jonny is right and DEV's are looking into this. I hope one day *cough* 0.9 *cough* we'll have weapon sway!

The perceived center of the screen can be moved using the camerabone. It's possible to make weapon sway that functions completely by throwing the sight picture off so the sights are unusable during certain animations by moving the camerabone and the sights. On irons, the iron sights can simply be moved out of alignment, and then small camerabone tweaks can be thrown in to confuse the situation a little further.

In principle it's the same thing that's done with the LAT sights, AT kits when being set up and most reload animations.

The idea isn't without it's problems, nor is it without it's merits.

Is there no chance of getting scopes like that? more realistic and you can see a blurred image of the rest of the terrain rather then just Black?

I sort of like the FH2 style of sniper scope with the blurred background. Doesn't really let you see much but it gives you the impression that you know whats going on beside. Could save you from a careless guy trying to knife you from the side.
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

It would be nice to have a similar slight weapon sway... Yes the bullets still come out of the center of the screen, but it does make it more difficult to aim without having to rely entirely on deviation.

I've heard you can use a barrel too, but I'm no modder so I can't be sure, although if it is possible then the guns would have to be properly zeroed. Overall it's quite a lot of work to do both so I'm not sure it would be very high priority.

The blurring effect on scopes in FH2 is achieved through shaders iirc. I think the reason Pr doesn't use custom shaders is because there was some issue with crashing/conflicting. I'm not sure if this is still the case.

Personally I don't like it. It looks really weird to be honest. The current PR animation style is the best in my opinion. (Great Work Chuck!!)
