PR lockup Blank Screen Sound still works

Post by Jazzam »

I am having an issue with PR only, the game will lock up randomly some times after just entering and the Kit screen is 1st showen and other times i will be able to play for a few mins.
The screen will go blank, sound continues to work (I can hear users through VOIP). Alt Tab does not work however CTRL ALT DEL does work and i am able to end the task to get the pc functioning again.

I have tried different sound cards and lowering the sound settings with no change.

system specs below:

cpu: intel core 2 Duo 3Ghz
ram: 4gb
VGA: Gigabyte GTX295
Sound: SB X-fi (1 of the gamer versions)

I am running Matrox Triplehead 2 Go however PR is set to only use one screen at 1680x1050.

any help with this would be much appreciated.

Have you disabled your onboard sound?
what sound settings are you running at?
what PSU are you using, and are you sure it isn't a: very old or b: not powerful enough for that beast of a card.
Please also post driver versions as well as other processes running.

I have tried disabling the onboard sound and also tried using only a USB headset for sound with the same result.
in both PR and BF2 the sound is set to Software and Low no EAX.
however i can run BF2 on Hardware and High with EAX no issues.
I would have to double check but im pretty sure its a 700W PSU and i use the box to run Flight sim and Iracing no issues at all.
I will post driver versions shortly.

erm well project reality simulates death by making your screen black to prevent ghosting and seeing where you got shot from (which would be quite unrealistic)
just open up your spawn screen (scroll lock) and spawn back in by clicking on "give up" to signal that you do not want to be revived

if this does not apply try opening the console next time to see if maybe that at least works (~, tilde key)
you could also try and check the input signal by using the monitors on screen display (OSD) to gain information about frequency, resolution and port (i.e. DVI 1); make sure that all is correct - maybe it even accidentally selected a different port (i.e. when you have multiple sources for video signals it might "auto detect" which one to activate)
