So I was thinking about how jets need a longer runway then a carrier to launch and had an idea.
What if you put a say, invisible wall around the front of the jet with a control on the side of the carrier that lowered it, very fast.
Have the static as something which doesn't cause damage when the jet is interacting with it.
Have the jet throttle up and go full throttle, have a person on the deck which triggers the "wall" to fall and the jet takes off.
This is something I've seen done on kashan where they drive the jet up the side of the hanger and go full thrust and they take off almost vertical.
Would the same logic work here only its not vertical but something is blocking the jet until it achieves full thrust and then is lowered?
I've heard talk of these implosions too, would they be effective at "catching" a jet?

small problem here, the carrier ingame (The USS Essex) is a STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) carrier and not a CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take Off But Arrested Recovery) carrier... Meaning that this carrier take aircraft like the Harrier or the F-35b in r/l....

Ye, it's much more of a proof of concept type of thing than any thing else yet, though it is pretty fun[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:small problem here, the carrier ingame (The USS Essex) is a STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) carrier and not a CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take Off But Arrested Recovery) carrier... Hopefully Guedo and Sniperdog'll work on the Nimitz to make it a Quality product, even if it's only with a below and top deck, and doesn't have any other interior in the bridge and such.
Add to that the Chinese LPD and the Varyag (I think that's how it was spelt
Also, implosions solved every problem with CATOBAR pretty much, from the Catapult to the arrest hooks.

Ye, forgot to mention that, but it does have a jump ramp, which the Su-33s I believe can use without assisted takeoffs, though on a limited load.
