Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
Hello, I used to play PR a long time ago, like over a year ago, and recently decided to give it another go. Since I've been back I haven't had much luck with getting into a proper team with teamwork and voip and what not.
My ultimate question here is, should I stick to hunting for a good ingame voip squad in a good server, or is mumble a much better alternative saving me the effort of searching for a good team?
Thoughts on this, suggestions on good servers, stuff, welcome.

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
Join the Reality Teamwork server. Mumble is mandatory and there are almost no tards on the server, thanks to the good admins.
User Ubaydah: "I used to play Call of Duty a lot and Battlefield 3. I am really good at those games 10th prestige, High K/d., I can kill people easily, etc. But on PR, for me, to be honest, I kind of suck."
User Not_able_to_kill: "Frontliner, you like evil man who comes to family house during christmas, takes out tree because it's too happy, so they can be just as sad as you"

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
its not mumble vs ingame Voip.
its mumble + ingame voip (=win)
at its current state, mumble is NOT a replacement for VoIp and squads should still stick to VoIP at all times !!! mumble is for squad leaders and telling a random blue guy that enemy is west.

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
If I were you I would use both at the same time. But my personal opinion is that it is more helpful to have a squad that uses Voip effectively then only some random players using Mumble.
If you have Mumble running in the background it can always be helpful. Also there are certain special Mumble servers where a high percentage of the players has Mumble.

^ gazz is correct.
it only makes a difference if people want it to.
If you are covering a building with an enemy in it. and there is a blue guy next to you, you either have to type or just hope he understands that one of you should cover and the other nade the building....
With mumble this process becomes efficient, more realistic and dare I say it...fun and sociable.

mumble is a bit fun and cool, but i don't use it since most things are via voip anyway.

even if you only use it once in a round to say "hey, enemy west" its worth the min to set up. Tho its used alot more.hiberNative wrote:mumble is a bit fun and cool, but i don't use it since most things are via voip anyway.

agree with gaz meself, he has explained the reason for mumble at its best.
other than that i always find a decent squad using voip

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
I'm actually getting more disappointed with mumble.
Its a fantastic tool ingame, I can warn friendlies of enemies, I can use other squad's members like part of my own fireteam if needed, I can talk to my passengers/drivers/pilots, I can have a laugh with the positional audio, I can find players that need reviving more easily, I feel more immersed, more intense, more connected to my team...
but then some ****** makes farting noises from out of game, or the constant chorus of "mic check" or "what's the password"...
I never realised how low the PR community's IQ has gotten. Don't talk unless you have spawned ingame, or the entire server will hear you. Don't ask for the password, the password is listed on the left in mumble and often is found as a subchannel called "password is X"...
It was better when only the better PR players got mumble to enhance teamwork etc, so many douches on now.
Mumble .6 is needed Asap to stop the chat out of game, that would cut off 90% of the annoyances right there.
Reality Teamwork server on a good day is the best PR gaming I've ever had. TG also use mumble alot, and I actually prefer their setup it just doesn't get enough of a player saturation. But on a bad day of mumble, I get really riled at these people as I have to alt tab and wait for a few minutes to see if they transmit so I can get rid of them.

Agreed. PR 0.6 will hopefully be a welcomed enhancement.Dr2B Rudd wrote:I never realised how low the PR community's IQ has gotten.

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
Who think that is right to join mumble server just for getting information (only listening) about enemy if they are "fool enought" to use mumble? Mixing mumbe and in-game voip just does not work. Best solution would be that players can choose in-game voip or mumble, but not botlh at same time.

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
To be fully awesome, mumble somehow needs to be built into the game, perhaps that will only be possible when an actual PR release is created, if ever.

Re: Mumble vs. Ingame VOIP
All that is required in future versions of mumble is autochannel changing which has already been applied to teh private 10th mountains mumble server afaik. When teh PR server gets the same treatment (if ever) cheating on mumble will not be able to be accomplished.Potilas wrote:Who think that is right to join mumble server just for getting information (only listening) about enemy if they are "fool enought" to use mumble? But tbh, you can't really cheat on mumble unless the enemy are just chatting- at which point they deserve what they receive.
