Commander Suggestions
The commander needs a "Ask For Artillery On This Location" Button, its really annoying when you can use the Map to see enemy units but your men cannot and artillery gets asked for in useless spots.

I believe the ribbon indicates their presence in the Campaign 1 phase of the PRMM official tournament.
This kind of thing is basically re-adding commander controlled artillery. Making the commander ask the squad leader to give him permission to use artillery seems... odd. I like it the way it is personally, when I play commander I never use VOIP but I still manage to inform my squad leaders where the best place to put artillery would be by using text. I think it's more fun making artillery SL controlled, it helps force communications between players.

Yeah, the only problem is, noone ever asks for Artillery, you ask down the VOIP and noone does anything, I rely on myslef and saying to SLs, "Ask for Artillery where ive placed the move order" or something along those lines.

Actually, since weve removed the ability for SL's to ask for arty on the map-view (must be lineof sight - which I like!), perhaps PRMM should re-enable the ability for the Commander to *also* fire artillery and drop supplies at will.
However, with the same restrictions as the Squad Leaders (SLs) - MUST USE COMMO ROSE to do it. (i.e. must be line-of-sight).
It would encourage commanders to "get close" to the battle so they can see it - also makes good use of Binocs. (i.e. the 10x zoom on the Spec Ops class - very very useful to pinpoint artillery calls far away)

thats all well and good, but you can never tell them where is the best place to put arty, unless its a landmark on the map, + they tend to ignore those voice things.'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino']in commander, right click on the squad and say "arty is avalibal" and "supplies are avalibal"

Well if the team can't use artillery, it's their problem. I know your frustration, but asking for the commander to be able to place artillery alone is taking away the point of teamwork.
I hate the frustration of not being able to put together a decent squad of HALO jumpers when I want, but I'm not asking for a feature to fix that. The fact is, if you can't get your team to work together you will lose advantages. Artillery is now one of those advantages. Players will learn, and if they don't, they don't get artillery. I know your frustration, sometimes it really seems your whole team is so incompetent as to not be able to get just one guy to call for artillery, but you're just got to get used to it. Try talking to people, ask them to create a squad if they know what you're talking about and call for artillery. The feature of making artillery harder to use was designed to force players to work together, and I know for a fact it's not a feature that will be taken out any time soon.

No, the commander can say where he thinks it should be placed, and the SLs still have to ask for it, im not going back to vBF2, im just saying that yo help teamwork this would be good.Malik wrote:Well if the team can't use artillery, it's their problem. Well for that we just need an additional right click option for the Commander. "I need artillery at these coordinates!". The thing is, as with all orders, if the Squad Leader accepted it'd be an 'objective' to his whole squad. This would require the "I need artillery support over here sir!" message by grunts to be treated as a request to the squad leader who would then need to accept to pass it on to the Commander.
Currently, I just order a squad to get demolitions and tell them I actually need them to get me artillery over there instead. It'll be a lot better when the right click feature goes from SLs, then when it's asked for at least they can't 'cheat' and right click from their position. They need to get a visual on their target first.

With the commander on the battlefield, I dont see why he cant have the command rose to call in his own arty for line of sight only and do the same with supply. If he was off the field in some tent, well then yeah. But if he moves closer to the battlelines, then he should be afforded the same "power" as SLs.
After all, he is much more like a lieutenant than anything else. SLs are sergeants arent they? With that structure, the LT should be able to follow squads around and call in needed options.
The commander should also get binocs regardless of class (or in addition to whatever class he chooses).
Make the Commander more of a fighting class.

Realism and fun aren't mutually exclusive.

Not true. Generals very rarely come anywhere near the battlefield. The maximum team size on BF2 is 32, about the size of a Platoon. Majors, with Captains as second in command, are the ones who lead platoons in the British Army I believe, probably very similar for the US. Squad Leaders are most likely a lesser Officer rank, but most non commissioned officer ranks deal with leading small fireteams.
I think.
