Re: Why is CnC such a rare gamemode
its a WIP that doesn't work well in pub play atm.
The reasons are as follows
- Since FBs can be built anywhere like in AAS, they are built often in rediculous places or as glitched as possible.
- The lack of objectives that attract each team in to constant contension results in a slow game, which is fine, but it means there are so many tickets that you always go to the clock instead of running out of tickets.
- Knowing when you have enough FBs and theirs are destroyed isnt very good yet, thus the teams don't know when the main's can be brought in to play
Its got some potential, but I only like CnC on Qinling and Kashan atm since the choppers ensure FBs can be found with some speed.

i REALLY doubt any server with public players could play it with any success, i would bet 80% of the server would be like... "why are there no flags?"

I really like CnC. It's so random. And it's the only gamemode where FB defences are actually used for their intended purpose.

Re: Why is CnC such a rare gamemode
As previously mentioned, CnC hasn't been fully developed.
I would say the reason most servers don't run it, besides it being a WIP, is because it really kills off the server's population. Not because it's a bad gamemode, but because most pubbies don't know how to play it.
Without flags or a clear set objective, most people just **** around in their main base wondering what the hell to do. It's quite funny actually; people think the server's bugged because they don't see any flags.
The whole FOB situation can also be quite cumbersome. You really need to have a team whom don't have their heads up their asses and know how to get shit done. Even then, with such a large amount of tickets and lack of proper intelligence, the games can really drag on for ages.
It's not a gamemode for the impatient.
I'm sure in due time, the whole gamemode will either get an overhaul or be scrapped for something new.

The whole CnC mode works better when there is a certain amount of organisation when it comes to setting up battles.

Placed firebases should just become flag radi on the map, within certain limited points. Or perhaps markers that you just have to destroy (serving as intel markers kinda like in insurgency.
It would eliminate confusion, keep the tactics, and perhaps more buildable Cnc only assets could be built for more defense. Then once all the flags have been taken (or markers destroyer) the team would know from their map to movw in on the enemies main.

I tried to run an organized match for CnC, but it fell through at the last moment.
I've never actually played more than a few moments on it, simply because it's so hard to find.

Re: Why is CnC such a rare gamemode
It works fine, and the majority of players understand the concept, the objectives, and how it's different than AAS.
It's painfully boring.
That's all it boils down to, really. The dirty little secret of flag based gameplay is that it does focus the action, at the very least it focuses where troops are deployed. With CnC you have to simultaneously: scout the map and secure and defend four firebase locations. After you find the enemy firebases, you have to take them down roughly at the same time, and prevent him from building more so you can capture his flag, all the while defending YOUR firebases.
The end result of this on a 4km by 4km space with 64 people is that aside from the other members of your squad (sometimes not even that much), you don't see anyone, unless you're assaulting an enemy fb. And then you die, because they're dug in and you're in the open. Or they die because you have support, respawn and get a new firebase built before you can get the others down.
The gamemode works, just not with 64 people.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Re: Why is CnC such a rare gamemode
Recall playing it once on an event it was fun, but needs lots of organisation with a good CO.
I agree it is best with heli's!
With a full server it is OK
CO 1 player
Trans helis 2 OR 3 maybe with door gunners on CnC?
defence squads 12 eventually split into two three man teams?
Attack squads 12
Logistics sq 2 with engineer kit
Maybe one unarmed scout heli for spotting
Would ne nice with just trans helis and squad transport, use those door guns!
Using trans helis properly that is....
But nothing for the asset whores to play with!

Re: Why is CnC such a rare gamemode
Personally I dont like it.
Its not very realistic, whats the point in setting up an FOB in a location with no strategic value other than it is hard to detect ?
Too much hide and seek gameplay Multiple search parties with totally mixed up factions.
It does not rememble armed conflict at all, more of an hide and seek with guns.

Re: Why is CnC such a rare gamemode
See my sig for a few ways to add objectives for each team without losing the overall concept of FOB objectives. The current system is just too dependent on all four bases being taken down at once.
