AK 47 or 74

The AK-74 might be more accurate but even if the AK-47 doesn't hit as well after the first 2 shots, thats all you'll ever need to take down whatever you're aiming at.

The AK-74 is for distance. But for distance BLUFOR always have the advantage with their scopes and combat optics so there's no point in fighting at a distance anyway.
Wait for them to come to you inside villages and houses, then open up on them full auto with the AK-47.

If the AK47 happens to have a bayonet i will take it every time. Idk why but i seem to dominate with it. Other then that i use the 74 cause its much more accurate and is useful on full auto unlike the 47 where if your over 12ft away u better pray u hit them.

That's all well and good. But with BF2 and deviation I don't like to use full auto ever (except when giving cover fire, or to distract) so accuracy for me is very important. Even if I'm just taking pot shots at some BLUEFOR

doesnt the ak74u fire faster? I swear it always feels like it fires faster than any other small arms in PR with the exception of the SAW.

I personally go for AK-74 over AK-47 (or AKM) for longer range stuff. I don't have any trouble hitting blufor at 150-200m with it, and it makes up for the lack of close-range power with low enough recoil that I can just spray them dead without shooting the tree branches.

AK-74 lacks the stopping power of a 7.62 mm round from an AK-47. The AK-74 uses 5.45mm, that is one tiny bullet. For comparisons sake imagine a .22 bullet.

Its a toss up for me, I like them both.


The FA switch on the AKM/AK-47 can come in handy, it has saved my arse a few times, but only ranges of 10-15 meters or less, beyond that 1 or 2 round groups is the only way to go. The stopping power is nice to have, but you have to really concentrate on hitting your target.

The Ak-74 is deffinatly more accurate, and substantially less recoil.
Like mentioned, the full auto is of more use.

Downside is It can take an extra hit or two with it sometimes to take an enemy down.
Mostly made up for with the increased accuracy though.

Aks74u has a higher rate of fire and suffers a little in accuracy because of it, Again, 5.45x39mm can take a few rounds to knock down enemies.

All in all I'v got some decent kills with it, but I choose the two big brothers over it anyday.

Lies Rhys, lies. The AKS-74u is still the best short range weapon in PR, adjusting for recoil is easy, you just pull the mouse down whilst firing and observe as your enemy receives an entire magazine of bullets into his sternum.

I have taken out many a US squad with the 74u, the trick is to go around crouched in iron sights, when you see an enemy release the entire magazine into him until he falls over, take cover, reload, repeat.

The effective range is about 50m but it is damn effective at that range.

The 5.45x39mm penetration is higher than the 5.56x45mm according to this video.
