PC Freeze

Post by wookimonsta »

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and almost everything works fine.
However, only in Project Reality, after a while the game freezes and I can't do anything. It crashes my entire PC and only pressing the reset button does anything.

I have:
i7 4x 2.93 Ghz
768 Mb 8800 GTX
3 x 2 Gig 1066 Memory
I am running Windows 7 Professional

If you have more than one cpu or 'core' I believe you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through your shortcut by adding
AFFINITY 2
to your shortcuts 'target' string like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

In game textures set to 'HIGH'
Set the textures to medium.
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis
on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.

Are you using the downloaded version of BF2? IF yes check out:
Another fix to try when having crash to desktop issues when using the downloaded version of BF2

Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get.

well, windowed mode is shooting my graphics to hell, so im leaving that out. I was playing with .86 with my i7 for quite a while and I had no problems, but I will try the Affinity and the Image.
I will see if that changes anything. Thanks for the help

Add +szx 1050 +szy 1050 +restart after fullscreen 0 to your shortcut then try it again:
+fullscreen 0+szx 1050 +szy 1050 +restart

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 0+szx 1050 +szy 1050 +restart
