Ok.....I posted this in General Dis. so iam changing the location..... dont blast me out of the water with my suggestion calling me an idiot and that this comment has been mentioned b4 but i thought id put my 1 and only request in considering ...if this mod goes though i no matter wat will download it considering im a huge fan for realism.... so here it is, a while back i heard that bf2 will not be including gore effects like blood and decapitated bodies into the game into the game for content issues and that they want multiple age groups playing this game. so my only request is that u add these affects to this game

Yea blood and gore often add that feeling that war isent soo nice after all. And i hope that is one of the things that this mod wants too capture. Cuz if you aim for reality there will be blood... lots of blood.

Yeah, blood is helpful...but it as to be done right, not like some blood mod for CS.

While I'm not one for real over the top blood and gore I have been interested in seeing a system of various blood types. For example depending on where one got hit blood woul appear differing shades of red reflecting the point of impact and the level of O2 in the blood. Of course for something like that to exist photorealism will have to become a reality as well as characters have a near human anatomical model.

I doubt we'll be able to do that. Modifying the shader maps and whatnot and adding shaded decals on the fly is something we have to wait for HL2 to do.

but the BF2 engine is post HL2, shouldn't it have this capability?

It depends on the level of development in the engine. I think it's safe to assume that it will support bump mapping, dynamic lighting, and a lot more of the advanced features included with HL2. It's unlikely they will release a engine very far below that level. I'm also fairly confident though, that the Source engine and Doom3 engine will both be better then the BF2 engine, just do to the level of the games and development time. Expect BF2 to be capable of a lot though.

That's not quite true. The differences are simply in the design of the engine. BF2's engine is designed for MASSIVE outdoor areas, and multiplayer with tons of people. Hence, the physics aren't nearly as complex, there isn't support for the amounts of objects, and although the rendering distances are higher, the amount of detail in objects is lower. HL2 and DOOM3's engines are designed for indoor environments, and HL2 has support for outdoor environments, but it's not tailor-made for them. They have support for WAY more objects in an area than BF2, and their models and environments are much more detailed.

Tis true, but also bear in mind a couple of other things. The BF2 engine as far as I've seen has not drawn the attention, nor has it seen interest from other developers to purchase rights to that Doom3 and and Source has. As far as I've seen at least. On the other hand both the Source and Doom3 engines are designed to be around for a few more years being sold to other companies. In particular the Doom3 engine. The head developer on that project is known for his engines. He has developed an engine that is supposedly capable of far greater things than what Doom itself will show. We'll have to see I guess though. I could be wrong because as much as I've followed the Source and Doom3 engines I've heard very little about the new BF2 engine.

Part of the reason, again, is that the games are designed for different tasks. Also, the Source and DOOM3 engines are sequels to HUGE blockbuster games, and while BF1942 was a marginal sucess and a well-reviewed game, it doesn't scare up nearly the same hype as the other two.

I think a realisic amount of bloodshed would be great, you always see the extremes, it seems when playing games.

the house of pain mod has a nice blood effect, but I'm not a huge fan of blood ingame, doesn't do anything for or against me, so I'm neutral. But big puffs of blood are kinda naff.

Blood really doesn't add anything to the game and is just something else the users computer has to render.

There is no possible way you could include realistic blood effects with out being pretty graphic. Anyone who has been in combat or has had experience with trauma injuries will back me up on this. This is a game it is supposed to be fun, and to some extent family friendly. I see no need to add blood in any capacity what so ever.

The only legit way to add blood would be to recreate the fluidity of blood and the absorbent nature of the clothing that soldiers wear. Such effects are not possible in BF2. The "red mist" is the most inaccurate depiction of blood I can imagine.

^ but it is true that the house of pain mod has made a reasonable blood pool appear below dead soldiers, but I'm not sure if its only the dead and not the wounded also who have it.
