Stats for PR

Post by Rapid12 »

I think that if this game had STATS, you would get more PR gamers trying harder not to die! The proof is there in the form of screen shots on the forum when someone gets a kill/death ratio to be proud of. The game's physics will keep the leet tards away, well most of them anyway, but an accumulative stat program here would be, IMO, very popular. Except for maybe the fantasists who believe you have to check the pulse of the body before claiming a kill. It's a game, let's see our progress.

There was ABR - Alternetiave Battlefield ranking, and a few servers still use it.

but afaik, if all that info was centralised it would mean som1 would have to pay for it, I dunno if the offical server provders for PR would do that as part of the deal they have.

and tbh, I don't see the point in a stat system, when I do something ingame I want it to be contextual to my situation, not because I want my stats to look good.

It's a game based on realism, right? I think it is a fact that most gamers, PR gamers included, would like to see their overall performance in all depts of the game. A stats system would provide that.

I know such a system would show who got most kills, or most kills with the hated sniper rifle, but it would also show which players dedicate most time to things like base building. All that aside, it would stop players taking their gamings lives likely.

If the game had stats, I'm pretty sure most of us vets would have transcended mere human rankings.

I'm pretty sure if this game had stats no one would care because stats really don't matter in a game.

Play the game, enjoy the round, wipe the slate clean and do it again. No need for an arbitrary system which will reward those who go strictly for points, rather than actually helping out the team where they need help.

Like in vBF2? One reason BF2 is so popular is because of the stats, yeah. But, tactics such as tard rushing, lone wolfing, using the sniper kit for nothing other than getting kills and grenade spam (something that we don't really have to worry about in PR) are mostly causes of there being a stat system.

People don't currently build FOBs to get the most points in PR (well, mostly), if things such as that rewarded people in the long run, people'd care more about the points than actually wining that round.

In short, BF2 stats bring a kind of - All for one and one for me! attitude.

Besides all of this, Stats for PR have been suggested and discussed MANY times.

No. Stats would completely ruin Project Reality and it's player base. The word corruption comes to mind, admins would have to go out of their way to look out for stat padding and all the game would come down to is people playing for themselves, just like in Vanilla.

I hope PR never has any sort of official ranking system, at least not one that only encourages getting as many kills/points as possible.

Seriously. Remember the .5 US LAT squads of death on old Al Basrah? Or hell, how many of our T-62 skills are entirely A-10's we shot down?

It's not going to happen. If you want stats there's always vanilla. If you want teamwork and great gameplay there's always PR.

Personally I don´t care about stats, though find them interesting.

But lets not get into the "you like stats = go to vanilla" assumption here.

Because its not as if they can´t go together, at least, I know I wouldn´t change my play style if there were stats or not.

There are certain stats that will change either the was the masses play the game or what kind of people they attract.

The only kind of stats I'd ever like to see would be:
  • Accuracy %age - People might stop randomly firing if this was one of the top stats.
  • Matches won/lost
  • Average length of life (per spawn)
They're a few of the stats that I can think of that may encourage realistic behaviour. And yes, I understand that suppresive fire will affect your accuracy %age...

But... supressive fire is a vital part of the battlefield, and shouldn't be discouraged in PR.

Yah... I'm only brain farting, stats will never be in PR anyhow.

We don't need stats.

Stats are for CSS playing rambos. PR is a team game so why should individual scores matter?

Please no we don't want loads of cod4-esque k-d boasting kids in PR. Also get people going for the kill rather than the objectives too much.
