what would be good was if the map was like completely removed of all objects and hud and stuff, unless you were near a firebase, main base or rally point or something to simulate the radio communication you may have with the commander or something that would give coordinates

squadleader should have map with markers(friendlys,cache,vehicles,etc)
squadmembers have just a map(maybe marker from their squadleader)

but when squadmembers are close enough to their leader they can see also friendlys,etc
just a though.

DON'T QUOTE IT YOUR NOT HELPING.

I'm used to that stuff after 2 years of 4chan though.

Imo I like this idea, even though it's a massive necro. Of course the commander has the entire overview, and it would add another element of teamwork since the squads have to keep in touch regularly via the commander so that there aren't many TK incidents

Yea but in the real world you can point and say look there (points finger) here you cant so markers are ok imho.

well, does it have to be completely real? the tankers will be having trouble figuring out whos who, if you cant use the map to identify friendlies I dont know what to say, there will be too much friendly fire.

I like the suggestion but shouldn't ever squad leader or even member get a basic map of the terrain just incase they get split up with their squad. This map could be just showing the map but without all the players and other stuff.

Removing the map and leaving players without anyway of knowing where they are would be cool cause you could get lost and have to describe buildings and stuff for your squad but normally in real life i think (atleast) you would get a basic map of the area you are in.

I like your idea and how it would create an even more realistic mod, but I have to disagree with it, simply because: this is a game, you would get lost in no time as an squad member because you dont have your sense of direction that you can use in real life. You simply can not use this while watching a screen.

i disagree, ive played this mod enough to know my way around any map without a map. and im pretty sure most players would agree. but hes not suggesting removing the map anyways.

A compromise if possible would be reducing the radius of visible friendlies on the map around you.

Im pretty sure he means removing the map for squad members? (on foot)
To these ends, I was hoping to make it so that Squad leaders could have a topographical map as a "weapon" with which he could see objectives, but can't see any infantry. All of the squad members would have to rely on the SL, as they would not have the maps
And yes, ofcourse, all the maps that are out so far are easily to know your way around becuase youve played them millions of times with your map, but I can see problems with new maps... just my personal opinion though...

But yeah....this is not the first thread on this topic. I don't feel like dredging up old suggestion threads, since its after 1 am for me, but there were discussions on this topic 2 years ago, when I first started on the forum.

Don't worry, the simple fact that this discussion has gone unresolved for so long makes me want to keep the thread open, so that others along the line can chip in their 2 cents or whatever in an older thread then having to create a new one anyways.

But on that same note, it might be interesting to have a beta of something simlar to this in the same sense that it was made for the removal of rallies, which had been another hot topic ;)
