prone sprint

Post by maarit »

is there any change to add sprint feature in prone position?
because now if you want fall back FAST from the nasty situtiation you have to stand up and run.

Yeah sprinting involves running on your feet.

Hes talking about faster crawling.
Why not, if it exhausts you quick and is linked to the usual stamina.

Low crawls are not meant to be fast. They are slow and methodical and to be used to sneak using cover and concealment to prevent the enemy from seeing and then shooting at you.
IRL you would only use a low crawl to get to a peace of cover after taking fire. If you chose to break contact you'd want to get up and run not crawl away.

Smoke your position then bail under cover.

Yes but you wouldn't, do you know how uncomfortable crawling is with the gear armed forces carry. Especially if its a forest, the amount of noise you would make and the chances of a stick ramming you in the face, your gear getting caught on something. On a cadet camp we had a large number of British army help teach us. And we were taught how to pass terrain tactically etc. And i can remember this very well, you crouch low, and using one hand to help move yourself (not carrying your weapon) you do this strange monkey like run. But that was only for crossing open space and cover is quite low.

i am not realy sure about prone sprint .. but there might be a way to allow a faster crawl animation when you press and hold the shift botton :) this should be looked into ^_^

yea, i was thinking this suggestion in case of this:
im under heavy supressfire and 10 meters away is better cover(little hill, cliff, stone)where i would maybe stand up and run.
it would be good that you have change to crawl there fast.
and this kind situtiation i wouldnt much care about noises, sticks on my face because other options is crawl slowly and get hit by grenade or stand up and run under fire and get the bullet in my back.

getting caught in some bushes would be bad luck  .
and sorry if the prone sprint was bad word :o ops:

edit:but when you get supressed actually(blurryscreen) it would take your staminabar half.just like jumping does.
that will try simulate that you are head little bit down cause of firing, fear and you are maybe suprised by the enemy attack.

I still support Maarit's perspective with the idea on using "Sprint Stamina" to crawl faster. Although it may not be advised or recommended in a military sense, it still does not prevent the fact that it still can be done.

It's impossible to say that people haven't ever dived for cover while under fire. And while they were prone, had scrambled for a better location to a nearby foxhole, rock, or vegetation for concealment or cover. I can remember quite a few scenarios where I had done so, then shortly thereafter was promptly reminded where I had wished the "Prone Sprint" feature existed.

Fact is, sometimes you do not always have the room to stand up and run. Sometimes you do not always have the room to walk around crouched. But there's almost always enough room to crawl behind something; the problem is that sometimes it's never fast enough.

But anyways... Despite the perspective of whether or not a soldier should or shouldn't be capable of doing this, I feel that the source of the issue was discussed in the past. As such (if I recall correctly) this "Prone Sprint" feature was mentioned to be hard-coded. The sprint feature was only available while standing unless a breakthrough work-around has been thought of.

I think some of you people need to go dawn 60lb of gear and body army and attempt to low crawl. Its hard enough to even lay in the prone in an IBA let alone crawl. I know there is there adrenaline factor from being shot at, but still your not going anywhere fast.
Also if the enemy is close enough to kill you after you've hit the deck your in a close ambush kill zone and you shouldn't have hit the deck anyway.

I'm sure an adequate method could be devised Thermis. Possibly by having a higher stamina consumption rate while "Prone Sprinting" to simulate exhaustion as you are explaining.

But of course just like any other feature of PR, it has it's positive's and negatives which have to be weighed out as necessary by the player. Regardless of it's positive and negative impacts on the player, it should be left up to him to decide. It's not the first time players could make proper use of their resources, or let it be squandered.

At this point in PR if a "Prone Sprint" feature was introduced, I wouldn't be surprised if it was welcomed with open arms. Especially from a veteran player perspective. To be honest it should have been introduced a long time ago and implemented to be performed in any stance (if possible at all that is). With an appropriate stamina consumption rate for each stance of course.

Nice, idea, but what is more needed is crouch sprint, to quickly switch position while standing behind cover.

We're already using a high crawl ingame. Note the carrying of the gun. He holds it across his forearms as he pulls himself forward with his elbows.

This is how crawling is portrayed ingame.
