Kit Selection Screen

Post by Lzryde »

If you've played the latest versions of Elxx's/Sir Community's Sandbox Mod, than you may already know what I'm suggesting.

Image

A setup similar to this could allow us to create somewhat customizable loadouts in Project Reality.

All default classes could be expanded on, i.e.

Rifleman
> ACOG
> Reflex
> Ironsights

Medic
> ACOG
> Reflex
> Ironsights

Squad Leader
> ACOG
> Reflex
> Ironsights

etc...

And for you visual learners:

I think something like this would not only add a bit of flare the the ol' kit selection screen, but also a great deal of functionallity.

What do you guys think?

I actually suggested this, and i think other people have too. but we didn't use awesome pictures.

I personally agree with this. I think you should at least have a little flexibility. I'm sorry but I don't believe that certain classes uses a specific type of scope for every situation. I'm sure it's a mix of what's going on and what the soldier is more comfortable with. I mean I'd use the old dot scope a lot more than the ironsights personally. =)

What would be cool is if when you clicked on the button, the rest of the bar would move down so you could click those easier instead of having to click the bottom one or find that little sliver of button underneath all that.

Like... an autoexpanding window. If you get what i mean.....

see how MEC gets covered up? that should be fixable.

I was just using the medic class as an example. Whether a medic gets an ACOG scope or not is a different suggestion all together.

And yes, the Sandbox kit selection is a little clumsy, but it is still a lot cooler than the classic BF one.

I little customisation is fun...but I think this strays in to unreality for regular forces? but I'm not sure.

Medics have ironsights to make them the most combat ineffective soldier in a squad. After all its not his job to kill. I believe that there making some sorta aimpoint type thing for the mec and chinese and what not.

Back ontop,

I've suggested this before and seen it been suggested again many times. I know its a Re-Re-Re-suggestion but every time a topic involving this is made it dies out and is never heard of again. I would love to see this, for example you could now make room so your squad could have a spawnable Grenader class and Riflemen AT. The more important classes like the HAT, Sniper, etc would be left out. Could also make it so everybody has a choice between what attachment they get in what kit (Really wants aimpoint for Grenader) Maybe even a diffrent medic loadout (Trade in some of your bandages and epipens for a smoke grenade or two).
if you miss him... try, try again

fun = good

And isnt their a thing that a soldier could buy his own stuff like a reddot, or other gear (not only for his gun)

IRL you would put whatever you wanted/could acquire on your weapon so that it was easiest for you to use. I carried a M4 with an ACOG on it even though I never fired my weapon. I also know people that carried M68s instead of ACOGs or EOTECHs because they liked the M68 better.
That said if this were to be implemented it would have to stay within logical constraints. We wouldn't want everyone running around with MP5s and Dragons.

Wow. Sandbox makes it look so professional. It would be great to customize weapons, but not too much or crazy like COD4.

Yeah just tailor it to how much customisation each kit should have:

ie Medic = Red dot or irons
Rifleman = ACOG, red dot or irons
Auto Rifleman = Irons or ACOG

etc.

This would fit perfectly with the new customisation coming in 0.9 (like the irons marksman and grenadier etc)!!!

for sights maybe, not weapons, weapon load out is definitely standardized in the military, the only customization is through sights and other add ons.

weapons can be switched however those depend entirely on your mission type and in which case it would be a platoon level thing. so giving the individual the choice for it would be unrealistic.

Most of us seem to agree we like this spawn menu.

Let's save the discussions for what goes IN it after we HAVE it :P
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

Great,i agree,exept 1 thing.
Only riflemen specialist have shotguns, dont make that possible for a medic.
PS.Buckshot is coming for PLA,MEC,US,Brits, in the 0.9

WikiAnswers - What kind of weapons do combat medics carry

How reliable the source is, I can not say, I'm not in the USMC, nor a combat medic.

But as I said before, this topic isn't about whether a medic should get a shotgun or not.

I'm more concerned about just having kit customization, not neccessarily what's in the kit.

well.. i bet if you could get elixx to share his code to do the kit selection and allow the pr devs to edit it to fit pr, it might be in, but although i like the idea, i think making it might be hard for the devs if they must start from scratch.

I definitely say +1 on this. Would definitely help if the situation changes. Here's a few ideas of things you could add =D

-Paint Jobs (Seriously. Woodland color :D )
-Decals (nothing better than a smiley face)
-Scopes/Ironsights

We should at least have some idea of customization.
Lets say... Normal Rifleman. Instead of carrying grenades, he can carry an extra large bag of ammunition.

Or more smokes

Or a crucifix. xD *laughs*

I think everyone should be able to pick what scope they want to use. But of course everyone will cry about ACOGs on medics so heres a solution... Medics keep iron sites and everyone can choose their scope.

i say we make it more oval-ish in shape, that should make driving more entertaining

i say the spawn screen is fine now, this would be nice but its something that can definitely wait
