Help. MD5 Tool Mismatch Bf2.exe(len=2048)/Solution!

Post by AeroChen »

Here's my situation. I recently bought bf2 collection on steam and managed to play pr with it using the method provided in this forum. However, I keep kicked by punkbuster in certain servers such as Chicago Hardcore, Insurgency.....Virginia...Lots of them. Anyway, pb says 'MD5 Tool Mismatch Bf2.exe(len=204 8) ' I tried every possible way I could get, reinstall bf2, pr , pb. And I'm still getting the problem! Somebody please help me.

Solution:
Unzip and replace the orignal one in steam. Everything works now. And, if u're using the solution that let auto hot key to perform a script that let pr work on steam. YOU DON'T NEED THAT NOW! Just use the original pr.exe and u're in the GAME.

Punk Buster not updated:
Before you go online to join a server
you should:

1. Download pbsvc
2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller, then delete the PB folder to remove any leftover files.
4. Restart your computer.

5. reinstall punk buster files with pbsvc( if your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6.Download pbsetup(pbsvc DOES NOT

install pbsetup.
If your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
7.Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsetup program shortcut on your desktop.
8.Run pbsetup (from the shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."

(pbsvc installs the punk buster 'engines' or applications.
PBsetup installs the files/gas the 'engines run)

Firewall not set up (open) for BF2 and punk buster
UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL

Make sure your firewall has permission for:

BF2.EXE
PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)

PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE
or (not 100% sure but for 32 bit O/S I think it's)C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE
PnkBstrB.exe
path:
"C:\Users\"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\PnkBstrB.exe"

I'm pretty sure I did all of it. Is it possible that something's wrong with the steam version of bf2.exe?

Good luck

Thx. I've looked through these threads before and can't find exact solution. The problem is that I don't have any pb issue while playing bf2. And it seems like my bf2.exe is corrupted in some way. I've Already checked it's intergrity via steam and nothing's wrong which was the weird part.

I'm also having the same problem.
I keep getting kick for MD5 mismatch.
I've tried to manually update and reinstall PB, execute generate_md5.py, reinstall PR, check game file integrity, I'm not even using the autohotkey script posted here, I do everything manually. Nothing works.
I feel like I've wasted 30 bucks.

also tried it the way as [R-COM]thepalerider descripes it.

i mentioned out that there are servers like "10th community #2" or some (for example) where u dont get kicked... but nevertheless i think i will try to get my money back.. or somehow let them send me a bf2 cd instead...

I got kicked by: "MRS =ABC=.." and "coffeeshop"
I think most of "fr" and "uk" in serversname work ^^".. dont ask me why

I don't want to buy the retail 'coz it cost much more.
The steam version cost me 55BRL, the retail version is 100BRL.
I also find Steam much more pratical to use, I don't want to waste my time with cds, with Steam I just leave it downloading and when it's done I can play.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, I'm using Windows 7.

Afaik steam checks the game file and replaces it if necessary.

Alright Guys. I got solution!!!!! I'm also using win7 and everything works now. Just replace bf2.exe in your steamapp/common folder with the exe I attached. Good luck on that

PS. Remember, if u ever check the intergrity of game cache file, steam will automatically overite ur solution bf2.exe with original steam nogood one. So, keep a copy of bf2.exe (the one I gave u) just in case.

Good deal AeroChen!
Is the bf2.exe in your link from the dvd/cd or EA online version?
I'm gonna guess the online one as it doesn't check for a disk in drive.
Remember as long as you have a valid online account with EA you can download the online version anytime.

Not a problem. I wish someone could spread this and benefit every steam-based-bf2-pr mod player
