For the most part, we have removed our magic bullet counters, but in the case of any bolt action rifle, your player doesn't try to cycle the bolt after the mag/reserve is empty.
It's really nothing major, a simple immersion break here and there.
Can it be made so that you try to cycle the bolt again, one more time before you hear the "click" of empty?

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

heheh would be cool to have but i dont think this is something important enough to be rushed, probably something they'll put in way along down the road

I like the idea
because why would an experianced sniper cycle an empty breach?? .... the sniper could leave the breach open after the last shot to indicate and empty mag.

Sounds like something to hit Dev Chuc up with. Hes the main animator. What would be helpful is to present the why and show the hows.

As for the sniper rifles: I'd expect a sniper to be able to count to 5.
As for the 10 round ones: It'd probably be likely to cycle once more on accident in combat, but not always. I'd rather not have that. The fact that you can't tactically reload automatic weapons is much more of an immersion break.

Re: Bolt Cycling
It's really not a terribly big issue, just something I realized suddenly that my Taliban Medic could keep perfect count of the rounds he had left in the heat of combat.
I do see the sniper argument, such highly trained soldiers probably have that ability to remember how many shots they've fired. This is all purely cosmetic anyway.
Along this vein of thinking is the question of a pistol slide locking back when the mag is out.
(I just like to stress how petty this is of me to wonder about, just a project for down the road)
How hard is this to animate by the way, I have no animation or coding or whatnot experience.

Re: Bolt Cycling
I seem to always notice the lack of a cycle and I reload, and I would rather have it than to cycle it again, not realize that its empty, take careful aim, and *click*. That would be really frustrating.
If it is possible to leave the breach open it would be fantastic.

Re: Bolt Cycling
While it may sound simple conceptually, triggering the animation system to do something like that is actually impossible. We can do other things like preventing reload until all rounds have been expended, which is more realistic for the single reload animation we have to work with.

Well that's the answer from the man in charge of this section of expertise.
Lock please.
