64 bit - BF2 freezing during install

I have a clean install of WIN 7 Premium Home 64 bit.
4 gig ram
Asus EAH4850 PCI-E
Creative X-Fi Extreme Music

All latest Drivers installed and seemingly working.

Insert BF2 disc: Warning that the installer was only tested in 32-bit mode? Continues install, stops at microphone threshold test. After saving settings it just sits there with a large blank box and never continues installing.

nevermind, I needed xp sp3 compatibility mode set. Now to figure out why it says the 1.5 patch is telling me I already have a newer version installed...

this happened to a friend of mine, he actually did a clean reinstall of windows 7 and then it worked fine... you shouldn't have to run any of the install or patches in compadibily mode.
