Hi all
I have a problem that, since BF2 1.5, the game crashes every time I load a new map (apart from the first time I join the server - like, I join, it loads, it plays that map, then loads the new map, then crashes.).
Sometimes I get a message saying "BF2 MEMORY ERROR , and then some explanation", and sometimes it's just a simple CTD no message.
Today I reinstalled vbf2, 1.41, 1.5, PR 0.86, 0.87, then 0.74 (?)
Played well until the next map load, upon which, it crashed.
Its basically unplayable, and thats really annoying because I want to play it, of course.
Any help would be much appreciated.
pwn.

vbf2, 1.41, 1.5, PR 0.87 Core then 0.87 Levels
Uninstall PR
reboot
reinstall PR 0.87 Core then 0.87 Levels
Also check:
Compatibility mode to xp and run as admin not set in desktop shortcut on Vista PCs
Right click shortcut
choose 'properties' from bottom of list
Click on the Compatibility 'tab'(along the top of the window)
Check 'run as admin' box, select WINDOWS XP(service pack 2
In game textures set to 'HIGH'(Vista)
Set the textures to medium.
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis
on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.
Turn AA off, just run game at higher res.
Set virtual ram to 1.5 size of real ram( make min and max the same)
If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files
Good luck

Re: crash to desktop at end of map load EVERY TIME
thanks mate, sorry I got those numbers mixed up. I downloaded the 2gb and 1gb of 0.86, then I now download the patches (So I downloaded the 0.856>>0.86 patch, and then the 0.86>>0.874 patch).
My connection isn't good so I will have to download the full 0.87 file another time to try that.
I run with medium textures, 2 x AA. So will change those accordingly.
How do I change virtual ram?
Also, I disabled UAC as soon as I got vista, and I am the administrator, and so the option to run as admin is greyed out, im assuming this means that I already am running it as an admin?
Also, I dont have the shortcut on the desktop - its pinned in the start menu, is this ok?
Thanks for your help, Im going to have a session now, will let you know how it goes.

Re: crash to desktop at end of map load EVERY TIME
nope, didn't work. I did training fine, left that game, joined Mashtur City, ran through that just fine, then it tries to load quinling and crashes (at a random point).
BF2 memory error.
What I did with the virtual memory is I said that the "computer can allocate" it, or something, for my drives. I have 5 partitions, and I did that for all of them.
Or should I set something different?
And should I clear the BF2 "cache"?? will that help.

Read the read sticky:
Help Guide for Lag / Stuttering caused by memory
Check out :
The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Vista
virtual ram info on page 122.
Try turning AA off
clearing BF2 cache may help/worth a shot
Start menu can be OK.
It is after all a shortcut.
Just check the 'target' and 'start in' windows for it to make sure they are correct.
You can right click on it and send one (shortcut) to the desktop if you want, but most likely that isn't your issue, Ram/memory is.
Download and read the guide to learn the best way to setup your VR
Be sure to read the :
Battlefield 2 Tweak Guide too
PS ram is cheep, Get another 2 gigs if you can.
Good luck

Re: crash to desktop at end of map load EVERY TIME
Right, I think I might have sorted it. FIngers crossed.
I set the thing in the options of "Texture" to "medium" opposed to high, (I usually did the texture quality from high to medium - didnt even realise there was one called texture only!
and I also set AA to off.
It worked twice, I joined, did the map, loaded a new map, then played that and then I left. I did that twice and it worked ok.
Hopefully it will keep working, and I appreciate your help very much, you have been the only one to offer help so thank you.
