Re: PSG-1 for MEC
Can you give us a reason to include it with the MEC? Do you have records of any Mid-East country using it? The G3 is used because it's like the AK-47 is to Russian and the Warsaw-pact countries and the AR-15 is to the US, it's variants are everywhere.
FYI, ingame a modified G3 is used as marksman currently.

It's used much more as a precision rifle in various police forces.
The SSG in Pakistan use it. But even then, they also do stuff that would be considered "SWAT" type missions by most countries.

I've heard the PSG fails at not failing in harsh conditions, but I might be wrong.
Besides, the current one is already nifty looking.

Re: PSG-1 for MEC
I really think this would be aesthetic, as the PSG-1 does look good, but other than looking cool, it doesn't add much to the mod. I also wonder if the "MEC" would really purchase a different rifle instead of just a conversion kit.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

Anyway back on topic, I like the current rifle, but I guess its up to the Devs to make the decision. Either way I'll still be happy.

Keep the G3/SG-1
I'd be in favor of replacing the Army sniper with an M110 if it isn't in PR, and giving the MEC the MSG-90.

Re: PSG-1 for MEC
The G3/SG1 is a relatively new addition -- what would the mod gain by replacing it with the PSG1, MSG90, or any other marksman variant of the G3?
In terms of game play, nothing would change, as I believe all marksman rifles are subject to the same deviation standards and all of these rifles are chambered in the same cartridge.
So.. What would be the point?

Because there are so few of them in service. At a 5-digit per unit cost (:!ma21212 wrote:why not give MEC PSG for marksman?
And on top of all of that, because it has been suggested here before and already discussed by the Devs way back when we were modeling the G3 weapons (God, I'm old. :tired
Only if you're a game developer for Konami. Semi-automatic rifles are not the preferred weapon of "stalk-trained" military snipers because they eject spent brass more than a few meters (and not just horizontally but vertically). This can compromise one's position and makes it difficult to police spent cartridges to leave less of an "operational footprint."charliegrs wrote:isnt a psg1 more like a sniper rifle than a marksman?
The PSG-1's specific advantages and disadvantages I cannot comment on first-hand; I just know some like them and others hate them. But I will ask someone who can comment on them if he would post here to tell you folks.

Re: PSG-1 for MEC
From first hand experience the rifle is beautiful to fire out to 5-600m. It is not good in either a desert environment or below -25C and tends to jam frequently if in either setting. The deflection of the brass has been solved somewhat by a curved guideplate you can have installed however the "ping" of spent brass bouncing off a concrete floor at your feet can be somewhat distracting as it comes out with considerable force. Another facet of the rifle that is an annoyance to someone like myself who likes to load their own cartridges is that the rifle crimps spent casings so that most are utterly useless after first use.
The only units I know that currently use this rifle are the SBS, SSG (as already mentioned), USSS and a few other agencies (rumour had it that the Swiss Guard purchased several that are held in the Vatican Armoury...quite a selling point if H&K could verify it). We toyed with it briefly here as well before making another selection (same with the GSG-9). At 17,000 a pop fully kitted out it's not for everyone.
The MSG-90 on the other hand may be a viable alternative (either in it's original form, the Pakistani licensed copy or the Mexican production variant). Unfortunately, as with everything else that would require a model which takes time. Perhaps in a few builds since it definitely wouldn't be ready in time for .9. Hope that helps.
