Lest we forget
To all other's who have served or are serving;
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the gun below.
We are the dead, short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and no we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be it yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not rest, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
-Lt.Col John McCrae

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Re: Lest we forget
By Nigel Moffett Snr - Father of L/Cpl Nigel Moffet, The Light DragoonsThere is in the eternal realms
A great line of men
Who march along a long winding road
Their task is to collect the dead of ages
Taken from the ranks of the fallen
After midnight on the 30th May 2009
The great line halts
And a sergeant majors voice rings out
Not as on the parade ground
But in the solemn silence increased
The short command is given
‘Get fell in to the rear of the column’
2 soldiers take their place
Adjust their equipment
And calm their troubled expressions
These fallen 2 shoulder arms
And the great line of men
The dead of ages
Taken from the ranks of the fallen
Moves off at a slow march
Winding its way along the long winding road
Almost out of sight
The line visibly halts
And a sergeant major’s voice rings out
‘Get fell in to the rear of the column’
And we who mortals be
Strain to hear the sound of their marching feet
RIP to all I've known and to all i'm sure to meet, someday.

"The Eternal Patrol"
The Solders a line in column and row
Their seargents around and in control
No longer will they fight our foes
They look so straight in their column and rows
We salute our fallen brother's souls
They've fallen out for the Eternal Patrol
Through rain and mud ; sand or snow
Forever they'll protect, where man cannot go
We will see them again someday
When we finally go to meet our end.
And on this world we cannot stay
We will meet again our brothers and friends
Form the Final Formation and call the roll
For soon we'll fall out to the Eternal Patrol.
God speed to all our fallen brothers.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

It's Armistice/Veterans Day. A day that you should bow your head and think about all the men and women who actually put themselves in harms way everyday. So it is possible that we may play a game that only vaguely simulates the hell soldiers go through.hiberNative wrote:how is this related to pr?

Why should a swedish guy, bow his head for your soldiers?
EDIT: Infraction received for a serious long running attitude problem. Fortunately some of our soldiers are better known for dying for freedom than running about stabbing English football fans. - Gaz

Re: Lest we forget
It's a day of remembrance for soldiers everywhere who have taken up arms in order to protect the well-being of others. Not just "our soldiers". As it's passed now this thread can now be locked before further political **** belittles the sentiments expressed.
