When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.

#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.
In fact #4 is: Read This If You Have Pr.exe problems
Have you read it?

#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!
Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.

#3. You have spent some time trying to help yourself, but your ready to ask for help:

Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.

The more info you can give the better you chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book, but your basic PC info is needed to help you.

Good luck

Have you set your textures to medium?
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis
on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.

If that doesn't help or fix your issue,
you can try increasing your virtual memory.
Select the minimum and maximum size the same. A preferable size is about 1.5 times the RAM you have.

Good luck
Are you using the downloaded version of BF2? IF yes check out:
Another fix to try when having crash to desktop issues when using the downloaded version of BF2

Hello i was playing 1 round of a pr game and then i get a crash to destkop then its says

That is a little odd ... as the pr.exe should not give a message like that once BF2 is running (unless BF2 crashing causes the process thread that pr.exe is running to crash ... that is possible actually). The crash to desktop is most likely a memory issue as Palerider points out. Are you on Vista 32 or Vista 64 ?

3GB of ram is good for the game yes , but if you are on a 32 bit system you may not be accessing all that 3GB. However the 1.5 version of BF2 was supposed to sort all that out I thought ?

Check out the red sticky:
Help Guide for Lag / Stuttering caused by memory
for a step by step guide for increasing your virtual memory.
It's for XP, but the same for Vista.

If that doesn't help you may need to lower some more settings.
Check out the BF2 tweak guides for more.

Hope is helps

"It's for XP, but the same for Vista."
IE:
The steps to adjust your virtual memory are the same for Vista as they are for XP.

Be sure to check out the system guides as well.

my buddy has the exact same issue, CTD then game gives pr.exe has stopped working message. I've tried diagnosing it for a while but have come up short... let me know if you find a solution.

he's running 2.6ghz quad core, vista64, gts210 512mb, 6g ram.

also, if you remember your install order can you plz post it? exact order including restarts? i suspect it might be a simple install order issue... that can cause problems right?

Well there are different schools of thought on it , and it depends on what you are doing and how much actual physical RAM you have. Personally I always set my Virtual Drive to a fixed size .... 1.5 or 2 times the amount of RAM I have. But this was a philosophy developed for audio and video applications (with lots of disk writes) ... it may be different for games (I have heard that letting windows manage it is preferable for games ... but if you do this make sure that your hard drive has plenty of space and its defragged regularly).
