I have played ArmA 2 myself and I played ArmA for about 5 minutes then gave up. :p I must ArmA 2 is better than ArmA from my standpoint. I'm not that big on huge mil sim games, but ArmA 2 is closer to PR.

Artnez wrote:Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear was my favorite first person shooter in that time. I played it endlessly. They broke so many barriers with that game, especially for tactical shooters. Ghost Recon took it to the next level with more refined squad based gameplay and some great visuals. I still remember Ghost Recon being one of the first games that implemented a "camera shake" when an explosion happens near the player. It was so cool. The way I see it, Rainbow Six: Raven Shield was the last true Rainbow Six game in the series.
I cannot agree more, and I try to force the other PR2 devs to try RB6:RVS as it has so many realistic and yet fun features compared to any other tactical shooter.

Some of us DEVs used to play it a lot together to get inspired by it and generally have fun.

I mean, just look through this and notice how many times RVS is mentioned: http://dslyecxi.com/bestoftactical.html

Omg, R6V was like so awesome. I seriously hoped it would turn out to be an awesome game with loads of players, but it didnt. I used to play it online for multiple hours a day. :P

Well said Artnez, i really agree with your post. I just pray they stay true with battlefield 3 and dont screw that up.
Keep up your great work Devs, at least we'll have PR / PR2 then!
Empires is by far...the worst Total war to be released.. nearly unplayable ...even with mods...really really sad..
Dr2B Rudd wrote:have to agree, and teh special edition stuff was incredibly overpriced. So much good stuff in that game though, forced to drown underwater by the bad.

I'd rather donate to PR, and I have, with some money, and also with alot of time spent mapping and as part of multiiple communities.

The "Total War" series is where i have noticed it the most. I used to really love those games, but Empires has just been one long sad bug...

Welp being broke I cant donate much but i would be perfectly fine with paying a monthly subscription (say $5) to finance PR2 with a new engine.

And yea as far as i can tell the current PR (even with its limitations) and hopefully PR2 are the best out there as far as depth goes. There is actually room for learning and organization vs just "BOOM HEADSHOT".

ArmA 2 looks nice and promising but as far as my limited exposure goes, its VERY buggy and its hard to get immersed into the game in a pub server.

PR more or less provides a decent balance.

Ever since RB6 Vegas came out I have been crying because that was the day that commercial tactical shooters died and instead became arcady dumbed down washed out, fogged up and specular bloomy graphics kind of games.

I hope we can keep PR2 on the right track and hopefully won't have to bend to the will of the distributor. Like PR1 is now, uncompromising - us running the show and making it the way we want a good game to be.

Fallout 3 is still a damn good game IMO even if it isnt like the original, but I agree with you. When I played Rainbow six Raven shield, it was so awesome. The amount of tactics and realism was very, very immersive. One more example is the ghost recon franchise. I dont know if you guys played the first one, I did, and it was completely awesome, from planing and selecting your team, to doing complex tasks on a bigass map. If you look at the new ghost recons now, they make me puke. The overall bad quality of the games, makes me download them and not buy em, you may call me a criminal. lol BF2 is one of the rare games I really bought just so I can play PR. I really hope that PR 2 will be done, and awesome, although I would like to see it without steam.

Fallout 3 became playable and somewhat enjoyable for me after DLing a 2 gig mod full of weaponz, a slow-mo mod, a ton of other mods, and tweaking projectile dmg, accuracy and AI myself, always tried to make it feel more like PR/CoD, but it felt like a phail simulation of a FPS shooter.

The new CoD is failtastic, nuff said.

dont blame fallout 3, content is much more difficult to create in 3d than in 2d, so I dont blame F3 for not having as much content as F2 or 1.

but I have to say that I used like 10 mods to play it, it was just screaming for some survival gameplay aspects it just lacked.

The way I figure it, all these companies bowing out and screwing over PC gamers will just make a commercial PR release that much more ground breaking and amazing ;)

We'll make billions off the sale of the game to ex-CoD players, ex OFP :D R players, ex Rainbow Six players, etc. And given time, they will all convert and adopt the teamwork and mindset of a good PR player [not saying that we all only play PR and that those players arent here now, of course, but all the ones who have yet to come over will sooner or later] ;)

Hopefully PR2 will allow the community to help in shaping it to be great in the same way it works here. All (if not most) of the new factions are being developed for free by community members afaik. That right there is what makes this community stronger than your average FPS community.

:-P

I think some perspective should be observed wrt to the potential PR2 has. The project afaik is currently in its infancy and it is a huge amount of work to make it viable even for a free release let alone a full commercial product. Not trying to put a downer on things, just not getting my hopes too high. Any donation the public make to PR, whether it is through time, money or even just playing the game I know is highly appreciated.

If you charged 100 dollars for the 1.0 release, I swear to God I would still pay it, as would probably every member of prWARs. I have a ps3 and a 360, and they both collect dust while I play PR year after year. :-D
