I often use to drive APCs on pr, but there is one things that annoys me. When i see an enemy threat like a H-AT or some thing, so am I as driver not able to smoke as the tank drivers can. The gunner doesn't have the time to do all the tasks with observing and changing to smoke if hes engaging some enemies.
So I wish for Christmas that the Driver controls the smoke on APC like they do on the tanks.

Reason:a small mistake fixed
Agreed, the driver should be in charge of his vehicle. The driver will be the one most likely to spot an enemy thread (espescially when the gunner is engaging) If the driver spots an immediate thread HE makes the decision to bug out, pop smoke and run his *** to momma
but ofcourse i would like to hear your oppinions, espescially a dev's.

You want the driver or the gunner to control the smoke?
It used to be that the driver did control the smoke, and I also liked it much better that way. I would suggest putting the ammo crate drop on the flare key, and smoke on secondary fire for the APC driver.
I was just typing a reply up as to why we can't have the driver firing the smoke weapon due to the smoke pods being on the turret, but then a idea just popped into my head on how it might be possible to get it working so that the driver is in control of the smoke weapon, but the smoke still pops out in the direction the turret is facing.
Will let you guys know in due time if my idea has some weight or not
I doubt it's possible but couldn't we have it so both the driver AND the gunner can deploy smoke, while using the same ammunition reserve?
Also, as a dedicated APC gunner, I have to agree to a certain extent, the gunner has a lot going on and the driver shouting "HAT HAT HAT HAT HAT SMOKE HAT HAT" only makes things complicated. If the driver could deploy smoke I'd be happy

o.0 How does this work on the tank then? The smoke is mounted to the turret there as well..
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Dosent the smoke shoot out in several canisters in a 360 degree arc in tanks in PR currentally? No matter where they come from, at least one goes in the direction the gunner is facing.

no way that I know of nope.
in r/l basically every crew member has the ability to deploy the smoke, but they all share the same smoke launchers hehe.

The current tanks are setup so the driver has his own separate smoke weapon, but the smoke always fires forwards from the tank, no matter where the turret is pointing. It was done like this for gameplay reasons since the tank gunner takes ages to switch weapons (not that APCs dont but its shorter) but has a load of issues like the driver and gunner can fire there smoke at the same time having loads of smoke pop up etc.

To my knowledge, the smoke weapon can be instantly deployed, you just need to be relatively fast to get it to the right direction. Been gunner on both vehicles and there's no "warm up" on the smoke launchers, but the reload time is still long one.
Cant the smokes be locked to the view-point of the driver, so they pop-out in 180* arc on where the driver is pointing?

ye but then after deploying your smoke you then need to switch back to your main weapon which then has a "warm up" time to it which leaves you exposed. Not so bad on the APCs since its much shorter but on tanks its quite long
Anyways my idea of how the driver could pop smoke but still having the smoke fire in the direction the turret was facing has come to a dead end after lots of coding trying to get it to work. It appears the weapon barrel must be attached to the genericfirearm in order for that firearm to use it, where my idea was to have the barrels and the firearm separate, but if you do this then you get a load of warnings that the weapon can not find any barrels.
May look into adding smoke to the APCs much like the tanks but need to look into that.

I think this setup would still be better than the current one. APCs need some smoke love.
Though, in front of a "good" HAT, smoke or no smoke in a narrow spot, won't change something lol. It is like when you see a smoke and wait for the medic then you fire at will
But I guess that if a "good" pilot is in charge of smoke, the above statement can be discussed ^^.
