As stated in my link the "DEV" team has told us that the "PR2" alpha test they wanted to get to the community by the end of 2009 wont be on time there will be a delay.
Twisted Helix: Yep you were the one tester that was of ultimate value.

Actually, you're quite wrong. We've never planned for a playable PR2 Alpha this year; the 2011 date is the earliest a commercial product could go out. I think you're maybe reading a little too much into the PR2 FAQ :p

What we have said is that the project is still in the proof-of-concept stage, on an engine that's still a work in progress. It may never see fruition, it may never become a fully released game.

Everyone involved in the project is, of course, fully committed to making it everything it can be - but the end result is a long, long way away.

That is all.

I have no problem whatsoever about paying a monthly fee to play PR2.

If its like the current PR, with improved ballistics, material penetration ect. updated graphics, I will be a very happy individual and will likely spend ridiculous amounts of time playing it.

Project Reality has given me countless hours of enjoyment, so much more than all other games combined.

I wish the Devs nothing but the best on their journey to PR2, and I thank you all Greatly for your dedication and hardwork.

If you over hype yourself for it you might be disappointed, not saying that the DEVs suck, its just remember, they will not be getting paid until they release it, and even when they release it they might not get that much since people might not want to pay a subscription.

But im still confident the DEVs will do well with or without money, unlike other game makers :p
A subscription?

My hype just died. :-?

Your hype is always dead unless its about something coming out of EAs or Infinity Wards ***

If it really does come to a subscription in 3 years time i probably would be able to pay for it, its only expected to be 3 bucks a month, hell, i could even buy it for you by asking friends for some cash :p

im hoping the DEVs could actually have a subscription and a pay once plan,
pay 50 or 60 bucks like you do for a normal game and you own it for ever,
and do the 3 bucks a month thing for the short term players

but again ,this is all just speculation about the future, its like trying to predict the weather on Mars 2 years from now...

I'm not keen about paying monthly fees myself, but there's definitely reasons.

It could provide a constant flow of revenue, which gives the devs the financial support to progressively evolve the game long after initial release.

You have to consider the nature of independent game development, which doesn't allow the devs to release much content/features at first compared to big budget titles.

The alternative of course is the usual process of selling one game then using the sales income to make a sequel (or an expansion disguised as one).

If they can make this fantastic thing called the Project Reality Minimod for BF2 for free them they obviously don't need the revenue, i could handle one time payment but subscription is insane.

You wouldn't pay 36 dollars a year to play PR2?

You've been allowed to play the free mod for years already, but you wouldn't cough up a few bucks to support a full fledged game?

Wow, penny pinching much?

I mean, I would be fine with a subscription as I have a butt-ton of money but some of the people on here are all like "Can my Voodoo 3 play PR? I don't have enough money to upgrade...". Those guys would be getting a seriously raw deal.

Why should we not be paied for our effort? I am one of the newest members of the DEV team but I still invested around 2 years of my spare time on this. Time I could be doing other stuff like chasing more girls or having this so called "life" I keep hearing about. You can't keep living on fast rope suggestions and deviation complaints, I need money for electricity so I can turn on my computer and keep working...

And why should we not be paied to provide continous updates and expansions and development, like now? (aka subscription) Expect us to just get paied once and then magically live on fresh air only and power our computers with farts and keep working to provide you with stuff.

And also don't get a crazy hype going that we cannot fullfil. BF2 had a lot of stuff like basic soldier control and vehicles handling in place. We have to do all of this from scratch equally or better than a full time game studio for you people to be satisfied hehe. Take it easy guys :)

Except you're not comparing like for like. PR (there is no such thing as PRMM now ;) ) is built on a platform that has networking code, physics, export functions, rendering etc etc etc all already in place. At its most basic, editing BF2 can be fundamentally as easy as opening notepad and tweaking a few numbers.

With PR2, our coders will actually have to create the system that the .tweak file actually plugs in to.

If you expect the PR2 Dev team to spend the next two years working on a project, for free, and be able to produce something of the quality that we want to (and that players will expect from us), that is an improvement on PR1 graphically and in gameplay terms, without being able to claw back some form of compensation... you're nuts.

No-one in the team is ever going to get rich off PR2. That's not the intention - but there is no way that the argument "If you can make PR1 for free then you can make PR2 for free too" is a valid one.
