Hey all, as you probably know I just moved to the USA, and so had to build a new PC.
I went with newegg.com and got the following:
Windows 7 64 OEM
Coolermaster HAF 932
Intel Core i7-860 lynnfield 2.8ghz
corsair xms3 8gb ram (4x2gb)
samsung 7200rpm 1tb hdd
gigabyte ga-p55 motherboard
corsair 950w power supply
Wheres the GFX card you ask. Well, im going to most likely buy myself the radeon HD 5870, but I need some of your input here.
I have been hearing of some FPS issues with the 5870 and windows 7, so whos using one and how does it work for you?
thanks
Ash

Im hoping to go up to 16gb of ram with two 5870s and water cooling in a few months, so I figured better safe than sorry.
Do you have a 5870?

Nope, I don't got a 5870.mightymints wrote:Im hoping to go up to 16gb of ram with two 5870s and water cooling in a few months, so I figured better safe than sorry.

Even with a 5870 in CF, a 950W PSU is overkill. If you look here (it's in Dutch, but I'll explain) the HD 5870 in CF with a Core i7 965 and 3GB RAM uses 353W max. That's not so much different from your system, so you won't need a PSU which delivers almost triple the amount of power. It's just a waste of money, such a PSU.
