I Could be wrong as I am sure there may have been updated from the last time I looked. But that model does not come with the "X-RAM" that makes BF2 run faster. You have to get a "Gamer" or above to get the "X-RAM".

Now I shall also point out. That all the above cards are good. But for most gaming needs in Vista/Win7, You don't need a hardware accelerated sound card. This is Due to the Vista/Win7 using DirectX 10 out of the box (Win7 uses DX11 I think). And in DirectX 10, there is no "hardware accelerated sound component".

BF2/PR will use hardware accelerated sound in Vista/Win7. But for newer games. You don't need "hardware accelerated sound" As no hardware accelerated sound system is coded/built into them. What I am trying to say is. BF2/PR is the only thing that will benefit really. Newer games will not. Just something to think about when you spend your money.

The Ideal operating system for BF2/PR is in fact Windows XP_64.

X-RAM is pretty pointless, only needed if you have a stupidly small about of RAM (1GB or so) and still want to run BF2/PR with max settings and Ultra High sound.



Agree however, that the best OS for a gaming sound rig is XP, hardware accelerated sound is perfect in that, Vista requires many workarounds to get it somewhat close to working.

The OP's sound card is not overpriced. Indeed, it is $30 cheaper. I think you are referring to the OTHER person who wants to buy an X-Fi titanium.

I only do about 80% gaming and only a small fraction of music and movies.

As Vox says, the XRAM is a pointless add on for anyone with over 3gb of system RAM, and although 'most' games without direct EAX compatability will not need a dedi Sound Card, to say its pointless is a little nieve really, otherwise why bother at all right?

The killer in Win 7 for sound atm is the MCSS service, which can cause really severe lag spikes on most Online games

I'm actually quite happy with Asus Xonar d2x. Works overall great, just that in battlefield 2 (and in pr ofc) the drivers still are incomplete. I get those quite annoying glitches in sounds from time to time. Almost like listening to scratched CD or corrupted mp3.
I hope asus will make new drivers for w7 64bit to fix this.

Also had couple of those medusas 5.1 headsets in the past. The home theater one and couple of gamer editions.

Well the home versions didn't last long. Seems like the material is quite cheap so one of the ears actually fell off. Broke totally loose.

The gaming versions biggest problem was the detachable mic. If you took it off while the headset was powered, it actually caused short circuit and broke the damn thing totally. Had to swap two-three of them in total.

Although they did have couple of nice things packed in them, overall i don't think they really were worth it.

HD-555 are good. I'm pretty satisfied with my AKG hearo 787 wireless.

I Could sit here and argue/debate this, that and the other all day long. But I can't shout loud at you. So this is the last I shall say on it.

I Know what works and why it works because I have tested it. That is why I not spoke about the Auzentech stuff (btw they are missing some goodies that the x-Fi Titanium has). I just don't know what they are like.

When I say that Windows XP_x64 is the best for PR. It's because I have tested it. In Fact I was it using long before most had heard of it. It's use of RAM made it a far batter gaming OS than normal 32bit XP ever did.

Map load times and FPS was far better in winXP-x64 then it was in WinXP-32. This is fact in my testings. I Used both.

But it don't matter anyway. I Use Win7-64 now. It's ok. I Can play my PR just fine. So I am happy. Believe who you will. But everything I have posted in this as true to my testing of said equipment.
