Well your OS is the same as what the pr.exe was created on, so that makes life easier , and it appears that your .NET installation is working as you would not have even got this far otherwise.

First .... look inside your C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\ , do you have a folder in there called "mods" and do you have a folder inside there called "pr" ?

Can you look again in your registry for somewhere like

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES"

or

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts"

and in the directories that you find in there, look for a key called "install dir" and tell me the path.

For example mine is in .... "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2"

and make sure that the directory is set to the same place that your BF2.exe is installed to (which for you is C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\ ")

Then can you tell me what your path to your profiles directory is, which should be in your "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. What do you have in there ?

I have looked in program files and i do have a folder called mods with pr in it.
The path for "install dir" says C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
Im sorry i dont understand what you mean by make sure the directory is set to the same place that bf2.exe is installed to ( where should bf2.exe be installed to?) and i also dont understand what you mean by can you tell me what your path to your profiles directory is, which should be in your "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. That should be correct. You can check it is by looking in your C drive >> Program Files >> EAGames >> Battlefield 2 , and make sure that that is where your BF2.exe is.

Then inside that folder, look for a folder called "mods" and inside that look for a folder called "pr" ... are they there ? Is the pr.exe inside the "pr" folder ?
and i also dont understand what you mean by can you tell me what your path to your profiles directory is, which should be in your "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. What do you have in there

If you open your file explorer, and look in the folder called MyDocuments, there should be a folder called Battlefield 2 with a folder called Profiles inside it. Is this the case ? (ah just read your next post ... thats fine, all is good there)

However I am thinking its something else, because you say ...
I have found that when i click on a server it crashes to desktop and creates a dmp folder saying dmp bf2_v1.5.3153-802.0
If you have actually managed to log into your BF2 account after launching PR ... then you have got past all the stuff that the pr.exe is doing and you are now inside "BF2" .. so if it is crashing at this point, then there is a different reason.

How much RAM do you have installed in your machine, and what is your video card ? Can you post that crash dump file up please ... I probably wont be able to glean anything from it, as it will be of relevance only to DICE I imagine ... but I might be able to figure something out about it.

First things ... to put your file association back to what it was ...

Reset file associations in XP - Cyberwalker.com

I have a thought ... what resolution are you trying to run PR in ?

Do this .... right click your pr shortcut and choose properties. Then in the target text box , copy and paste the following ...

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +fullscreen 0 +szx 1024 +szy 768

and try joining a server then.

No no no no no no ... don't believe everything you read on the internet :D

The 256 file should be in your pr folder AND your BF2 folder. Its just the splash screen. One is BF2s and one is ours. The log file entries refer to the fact that when you launch PR that our splash screen replaces the bf2 one so that you see it at launch , and then it puts it back the way it was, so that if you launch vanilla BF2 you get the BF2 splash screen.

Nothing sinister or startling :D

Your resolution is correct so thats not the problem. I am wondering what it might be now to be honest ... its definitely a bf2 problem ... but its puzzling that bf2 plays normally. That VisualC++
runtime error is unfortunately one that has plagued many games ... it is possible that its an out of memory issue .. and this would explain why it happens with PR and not BF2 ... because our maps use way more memory.

Try increasing your virtual memory to 4GB, then if that doesn't work ... try and let windows manage it. How much disk space do you have on your C drive ?

That is indeed also puzzling. The pr.exe has not changed either between those versions (at least not something that would cause that), and I think we actually did some memory optimization so 0.87 used LESS .....

Did this just start happening when you patched to 1.5 BF2 ?

I dont know how you make the virtual memory go bigger
This has happened since i patched to 1.5
I have loads of disk space
From what i remember when i had 0.86 i patched to 1.5 then installed 0.87 and everything has been fubar since then i have tried installing 0.86 but thers no servers to see if its a memory thing .
I think either my directorys fubar or ive not enough memory or but the 1 thing doin my fckin head in is why did you have to make 0.87 i was happy blowing stuff up on 0.86.
Anyway i have my royal navy tests next week and if i pass i dont need to worry about that anymore i wil be able to blow stuff up for real , first on the list is this computer :)
Thanks for the help though if you think of anything else let me know or you could show me your folders and directory settings so i can see if mine match
