Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
I was looking at the other repair thread next to this one, and after finding it to be able to be easily exploited, I ventured to another solution. 10 seconds and I thought, With the Chinook coming in for 2 factions as a Large helicopter, and the NH-90 to act as a larger heli for other forces, both could act as a repair platform for such landing vehicles. What I was thinking is to have a single, reloadable, repair station, like those dropped from Logistics Trucks. The Station will last longer than the truck dropped one, but will drop a few feet behind the Tail Ramps that most of the helicopters I had in mind have (H-53, Chinook, NH-90). To avoid spam, the Repair station cannot fix the Helicopter itself.

afaik, not realistic for choppers to do on field repairs of armoured vehicles.
The most they could do in r/l afaik is simply air lift out a damaged light vehicle.

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
Or just make it a single use drop. Not enough to fully fix a disabled vehicle but keeps it alive long enough for a logistics truck to arrive and do the field repairs.
Afterwards the thing has to be reloaded on a landing pad, just as a supply crate.

I doubt it's possible, but would you be able to make it so the damaged vehicle is destroyed and instantly respawns when the Helilands on the air field?[R-DEV]Rhino wrote: The most they could do in r/l afaik is simply air lift out a damaged light vehicle.

sorry rhino, but i think maybe he has an idea, it might make up for the lack of troop capacity and the number of crates able to be dropped.

though i read about soviet rescue helicopter crews, they landed and crashed helicopter site and quickly repaired it so they could make their way to base, if it wasnt possible they removed all valuable things which could be re-used for repairing other helicopters

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
Ye when it comes to helicopter crash sites, most of the time anouther chopper is first on the scene to secure the crash site and to provide repairs, often also air lifting the crashed chopper out back to base. Many examples of this in Afghanistan and other theatres of war, one pretty recently as well but for armoured vehicle repairs, never heard of it.DankE_SPB wrote:db wont be happy i guess

Well obviously with the extremely limited coding options we have and how the engine works with the Collision meshes, I thought this would be a good compensation for the fact that we can't do so. But if its really that unwanted by the Devs, I guess I should allow it to be shot out of the sky.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:afaik, not realistic for choppers to do on field repairs of armoured vehicles.

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
if you can provide some examples where helicopters have been used to conduct the bulk of repairs to ground vehicles I would be defiantly consider putting it in, but right now I aint seen any.

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
Correct me if I'm wrong but, the same logic is being used with the Logi truck, instead of a truck going out full of engineers to fix the vehicle, it drops a little station. If you had concentrated on the idea of vehicles being repaired off the battlefield, then the repair station on the logi truck would have never been added. I don't know where and if there are any examples of this happening, but like I said, it has the same logic as taking the vehicle back to your base for repairs.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:if you can provide some examples where helicopters have been used to conduct the bulk of repairs to ground vehicles I would be defiantly consider putting it in, but right now I aint seen any.
Edit: I hope I wasn't being brash in my post before yours, I luv you Rhino.

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
I dont think you understand the problem here.
there are recovery vehicles our there that are designed to carry out battlefield repairs on vehicles etc, the logic behind why we dont have a dedicated recovery vehicle and we have rolled it into the logi truck is simply due to player numbers etc.
With the helicopters, there are no dedicated helicopters afaik that are just there to carry out battlefield repairs. If normal transport choppers where used to carry out battlefield repairs on ground vehicles that would be good enough to convince me but would need to see some good examples. Right now the only examples I've seen of this is choppers used to repair/recover other downed choppers, simply because most ground vehicles can't get to where the chopper has crashed and its the fastest / most effective way since they are light etc. A Chinook etc might be used to recover a damaged light vehicle, not that I've heard of it but they do fly them in on logistics roles all the time so no reason why they couldn't recover one as far as I can see, but again, never heard of it.
I would need to see some evidence that helicopters are used to repair / recover ground vehicles of any type, thous proof of a helicopter used to do the bulk of repairing a heavily armoured vehicle such as a tank would defiantly close convince me that we should put it in but until then, I'm not fully convinced

The only thing I have heard of is heavy helicopters being used as "fat cows" to refuel both helicopters and ground vehicles, like tanks (in many cases they can use the same juice), at a FARP.

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
I am very desirous of this, simply for the gameplay facilitation, but only on maps where there are no other options for vehicle recovery. As far as I last recall, on Sangin (sp), there is literally no option to repair an apc out in the field, even if the vehicle isn't damaged aside from being tracked.
I presume that aside from sheer power to physically shift a stuck vehicle, there is no piece of equipment that can be taken out into the field on a "logi truck" that would not fit onto a suitably heavy-duty helicopter.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Would be good if firebases had some kind of vehicle repair object, that might be a good middle ground.

Re: Heavy Helicopter to drop Repair stations
As rhino has repeatedly pointed out, it doesn't make sense for helicopters to repair vehicles. Having any kind of deployable repair station would be highly unrealistic. It might help gameplay, but it wouldn't be in the spirit of PR.
