A potential player wondering about system requirements

Post by Chaosut27 »

Hi, i've just made an account for the forum and i have to say that PR sounds really really cool :) , however I was unsure if it would run smoothly on my PC which is pretty outdated (especially the video card). If it isn't too tedious i might just explain a bit more about my situation.

I'm a huge fan of games like Operation Flashpoint, Arma, Insurgency and SWAT 4 (though the Ghost Recon/R6 series not so much), and PR sounds like a game i'd really enjoy (sry if i'm gushing but it looks so awesome :D ). Though i currently don't own a copy of Battlefield 2, so i'd be buying it pretty much just for PR (If i already had the game i would download the mod and test it out).

So i was wondering if somebody could help me out and tell me roughly if PR would run smoothly on my PC. It certainly wouldn't have to be on the highest settings, but i'd would wanna play it fairly lag free. For example, i tried playing America's Army 3, and even on low settings it lagged pretty bad :( which really detracted from the experience.

I don't really know any about computer, but hopefully these are the right specs to post (which i've just taken from dxdiag). Please tell me otherwise. I think what's most out of date is my video card, but i'm not sure which video cards would be compatible (if you can help me with that too that'd be awesome  , but i might leave that for another thread).

Windows XP2
Optiplex 755
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 ghz
2014mb RAM
ATI Radeon 2400

Sorry, i know a 'will this work on my pc' thread is probably a pretty common noob question :-) . But i'm really interested in this mod and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You'll be fine. Should also be able to run a couple of video settings on 'high'.

biscuit123 is right you should be fine. You can get a copy of BF2 for around $10 bucks US if you look.
Good luck

One word of warning...
PR is highly additive.
Once your exposed to your first huge firefight you will be hooked.
Other games will lose their appeal faster than you ever thought possible.
On the brite side you will save a LOT of money you used to spend on games

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone, it's really helped, and thanks for the welcome. I've actually just bought a copy off ebay, so hopefully it won't take too long to arrive as i'm really really looking forward to playing PR  . It does sound like a very addictive game thepalerider, which makes me even more eager to play it :-D . Also thanks for the website link Fighter, hopefully i can find some regular aussies players to play with (though i might play on singleplayer for a while in hopes of not bringing down my team too much the first time i play lol). Thanks again

Okey. I looked this up just to add a question and not another thread about system requirements.

It seems I have somewhere lost the tech edge I used to have...like 10 years ago! :D So, now I have to ask something:

I'm running an iMac and I was thinking about installing XP with Bootcamp, since I need 2 programs which cannot be found for mac. So, I was wondering, that is my iMac with that XP, ok for BF2 and PR.

Intel Core 2 Duo
2.66 GHz
2gb Ram DDR3 1067 Mhz
NVIDIA GeForce 9400
256 Mt

I think you could have handled the last version fine, but not since the total FPS fail of v.9

personally i think yes, it has effected my gameplay alot and it's only frustrating because i could run this mod with ease before v.09.

Oh, your system seems really capable. Strange indeed.

But, I'll will still test my luck and just go for it. If it doesn't work, I'll just have to get a PC :)
