I seem to have a sort of a strange issue.
When I try to launch BF2/PR (also Arma 2) the screen goes black as usual but just then just suddenly it sort of alt-tabs back to desktop and there is no way of getting it back up.
I guess it could be some sort of issue with bink movies since I get to here a brief sound from the EA logo (when launching vBF2) before the alt-tab. Also, if I use +restart (not showing intro movies) it works further suggesting it's an issue with bink movies.
And it also works as normal if running it in windowed mode.
I had it working perfectly before on both Win XP and Win 7 RC (x86) but since I switched to Win 7 (x64) (no changes to the system other than that) this has appeared.
Anyone else have/had this problem and does anyone know of any solutions?
Anyone with the same specs that didn't have this problem?
Yes, i know, since i can run it anyways it shouldn't be much of a hazzle but it's still quite annoying.
System specs are:
Win 7 ultimate 64-bit
Pentium D 3.4gHz (dual core)
ATI Radeon HD 4670
Edit: And yes, I've tried reinstalling BF2 (Multiple times), DirectX and various graphics drivers without success.

Re: Switches to desktop when launching
Maybe?
The problem is that something is telling BF2 to load a resolution that your monitor or video card doesn't support. In my case it was my new widescreen LCD.
That "something" is actually 3 files in the "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. In that Profiles directory are 3 folders called 0001, 0002, and Default. Inside each of those 3 folders is a file called Video.con. You need to open each of those 3 Video.con files and search for the line that says "VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz". Change all 3 files to a resolution & refresh rate that you know the monitor and video card support ( like 1600x1200@60Hz, and BF2 should work like a champ again.
Good luck

Re: Switches to desktop when launching
Heh, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I had it all (both monitor and video.con settings) set to 1280x1024 @ 60 hz previously (worked as a charm when I had xp and win 7 rc x32) but I switched all to 75 hz now AND IT WORKED
Silly me though, having to make a new thread and all that fuzz for something as simple as this.
Anyway, thanks for the help, thread can lock now.
