Communication / VOIP

Post by Dead.MaN^ »

Just a little feedback from my side, I've been playing the game for a little while now and enjoying it (most of the times at least).

However for a teamplay-oriented game there is a surprisingly low amount of teamwork when it comes to the individual squads working together.

What is IMO a bit weird is the squad limited VOIP, I mean it's ok to have sort of a squad intern communication, but why can't I communicate with other people in the server?

Sometimes there are friendly squads nearby or just one or two men that don't belong to your squad, and if you want to tell them about enemy positions, ask for help or whatever you have to use the chat. Which is incredibly slow in hot situations.

The same problem applies to combined arms situations. Why does it take a commander for everything? Why can't I myself set a marker on the map to warn tanks about enemy armour, why can't I switch radio channels to global and at least tell them? Why can't I set a spot/target marker for my teammates without being squadleader?

I mean you guys get the point there's so much more potential for teamwork but it's limited by the games communicational restrictions. And yes I know about mumble, but I'd prefer an ingame solution anytime since you can be 100% sure the guy hears you.

Battlefield 2 in-game VOIP is hardcoded (meaning it cannot be changed). Believe me if it could have been changed it already would have been done and you would have it in-game. Instead we have only the option of using external 3rd party VOIP programs such as TS and Mumble.

Mumble is being packaged with PR for future releases in the hope that more people will start to use it.

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

Welcome to the word of Mumble!!

Download mumble and play on TG at night. You will be amazed, specially on password nights!
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

I know I've been there once, it was really nice ;)

A real shame it's hardcoded, thanks for your replies!
