Video Card suggestions

I hope you guys can help me out, i have a Quad Core, 4 gigs of ram, everything is good in my book but then i have som Nvidia Quadro video card. I'm not that knowledged in computing, but can certain computers have two video cards at once? Also what is a good video card under 100$ that can run ARMA 2 atleast on Medium. I was looking at the 8800gt looked like a pretty decent card that would cover me for a few years.

Yes, some computers can run 2 cards together, you need a certain type of motherboard to do that though. It called SLI for nvidia cards and Crossfire for ATI, you can find out if your motherboard has this capability by looking in the manual or googling the model.

The 8800gt is a great card, and is basically the same as the 9800gt, with the 250gts being slightly better (it's a tweaked version of the card, like the 9800gtx). You can get a 8800gt/9800gt with 1gb of ram for quite quite cheap, and it is a very good all round card.

Be mindful that these threads can sometimes turn into a bit of a ramble-fest with people arguing about different cards, so it's always helpful to look at other sources. Having said that, you can't really go wrong with a 88/9800 nvidia or it's ATI performance equivalent.


In terms of ARMA 2, these cards will run it fine at pretty much max settings, it is however the CPU that affects performance in that game. For example a quad/dual core at 2.3ghz will not run it as well as a quad/dual core at 3.5ghz. It really is a CPU zapper, and to play that game it may be worthwhile upgrading your chip depending on what you have now.

Yeah i have a Quad Core 2.4 i believe it should run fine, i also have 4 gigs of ram.8800 GT is compatible with many modern motherboards from my understanding so i thinkif i get this it would be great.

I'm getting the HD4850 (1gb) I know its not a hi-end card but will it be able to play PR pretty well at 1920x1200 res?

If u can get 2 8800GTS 512 in sli you will be set for quite some time. The 8800GTS is build with the g92 platform (65nm chip that is used on the new gtx series cards such as the 250)
