radeon 5850 power split 2 trees

Post by Cassius »

As some of you might know, the whole power of a psu unit isnt supplied in one single cable tree. If one tree has 12 V with 14 ampere of power, the total tree supply is 168 watts of juice.

The radeon 5850 has 2 6 pin plugs. Is it a good idea to use one tree for each plug, using a Molex converter, or is it better to have both plugs in the same cable tree ?

I am asking because i have a good 400 watt power supply. COBA efficient reliable and very quite. however on one tree I have 168 Watt of power, which is about the grafic cards peak power demand.

The watt consumption of a system with a 5850 was tested and it was slightly more than 300 Watt and I only have one hard drive and one DvD burner installed. So is it a good idea to split the power between the trees or will that cause problems ?
