Not at all, btw i agree 100% with Rud i do think it will be more beneficial for both parties.

ma21212 wrote:I dont think so. its some times a pain in the *** to get into a server like the other day I waited 20 mins (went to eat lunch and i left "auto deploy" on) when I came back in it was still trying to get in. the one thing i HATE about some servers is they cap it to 62 (some go as far as 60) players. Its almost never used, they should make it 64 and if an admin wants to get in just kick someone for it, better than keeping 2 possible players out. (it also makes it a pain cuz Auto deploy dosent relize that one of the slots is reserved so you gotta wait for 2 ppl to leave)

I used to play on a server most of the time was seen by most members and out of the blue was offered a reserved slot

Have to agree with Rudd on this. The best way for a clan to get themselves set up is to affiliate themselves with one or two other clans or a gaming community as mentioned. It is simply too much effort and investment for each individual clan to run a server at the moment and is a waste of money.

On topic, no I do not thing that interest is waning in PR. Many servers are populated almost constantly (UKWF for example) and the general number of players is high simply for a full retail game let alone a modification. I think that in the last few months there have been a number of strong competitive retail games that have been released into the same sector as PR (Operation Flashpoint, ArmA 2 and Modern Warfare 2) and no doubt a few players have been lost to these games (MW2 being the main one), however the overall effect on the population has been marginal and I feel that many of these players will return as soon as 0.9 is released, along with the normal influx of new players that accompany a major release.

No. I see multiple 64 person servers running every night. If anything PR has a huge fan base.

Idk, how much more successfull can a mod become, to first be the sole reason a majority of people get the underlying game and later become a standalone game, to have a sequel to said stand alone game ?

But like I said, it was the mid 90s and if you did anything else but deadmatch it was already an innovation.

when i said "Most popular mod for any game" , i didnt mean "most popular mod ever" but infact meant "most popular mod for any game" , ie now.

I also play Arma2 with the new ACE mod but that is getting on my nerves as you have to spend an hour every night updating before you can play and the updating isn't that straight forward....

I know there is still plenty of people playing PR but this past few months has seen a drop in full servers and people going elsewhere for this kicks.... I just wish v0.9 would hurry up as I'm getting dame sick of Muttrah and Asad Khal..... we the players are desperate for new maps - I think that is what I have concluded....

Hurry up DEV's - give us all a nice Christmas present...... :D

I don't think PR has a popularity problem. For the first time in my memory I couldn't get on the TG server, and that was at like 3 in the afternoon. So I think there is very little to be worried about. 0.9 will bring new players, as all new versions do, but I don't think that PR is hurting right now.

If anything, I blame Muttrah. Really.

My friends and I have played much less because it always seems that Muttrah City is playing, or playing next on 90% of POPULATED servers. Coupled with the fact that it is considered a Seeding map and when the server crashes, it defaults onto Muttrah more often than not. That, and Falujah West SOMETIMES. But my friend can't stand insurgency so yeah, for some of us the map list is really killing PR, at least for this version.

It'd be hard for me to agree that the map list is making server populations dwindle, if anything its traveling for the holidays that would cause some ppl to be unable to play.

For example, vBF2 still unbelievably popular, and yes Strike at Karkand 24/7 STILL unbelievably popular. Hell I can safely say its my favorite vBF2 map of all time, I dont care if its overplayed. If something is the best, imo it CANT get overplayed. I can also safely say Muttrah is my favorite PR map. BGH is the most popular SC:BW map to this day as well. I could go on and on...

there are certain advantages to playing the same map a lot and i can see how you would get sick of playing the same map, but at the same time i dont understand it that much b/c be FPS, RTS, or any game in general there is always a favorite map and for some reason the best map. (If i had to give a reason i'd simply say, "good amount of action, well balanced". Yep that simple.

Lets face it not all maps are created equal and most ppl play FPS's for some intense infantry combat, if the map lacks that intensity, it wont be popular. Most ppl dont play PR b/c its a Flight sim or Tank sim. if they're anything like me, they play it to shoot some assault rounds.

Dont get me wrong i also love Bi Ming, Mestia, Sunset, Asad, this other Chinese v US (not qwai), Ghost Train... and then i also love Muttrah. If i had a server that'd most likely be my rotation... and no, i dont like kashan or any other vehicle heavy, sniper favoring, long walk on the beach, type of map.

But not to hijack the thread, I dont believe its losing popularity, i think its just the holidays and some ppl are unable to play since they're out of town.

The only reason players may be leaving the mod behind is due to the frustration of Noob-like/Old players not playing for the team as a whole. I Have seen it more and more over the last few months. Players (including myself at times) want the team to work to them. And so they go off on there own little mission and leave the flag behind. Then go mad when the blue-mob did not defend the flag. This has lead to more and more frustration. And that is why players are leaving if they are that is.

I agree that if there is in-fact a recent loss of interest, it's map related.

I'm personally bored with most of the maps by now, simply because I've played them so many times for so long. My anticipation for 0.9 is very high.

Regardless, asking "is PR dead?" is silly. We'll know it is when it happens and no topic like this will make any difference.

This very topic getting 4 pages in less than 24 hours kinda speaks AGAINST PR being dead.

Yeah me and my friends are about to host a pr server but the low population nowadays concerns us a bit. However, hopefully in 0.9, we may get some fresh players or the ones who came back for a new version. Anyway we'll keep on creating the server to be an alternative for different maplists etc.

I'm a kashan loving, tank whoring, sonnofab***. Lol. I enjoy infantry battles and all but the deviation just annoys me. I like to trust my gun. (I trust my SAW.)
Anyways, I agree a lot of people can play the same map over and over and still enjoy it but thats not true for everyone, A lot of the issue with Muttrah is some "balance" things you talked about. A big step forward would be to remove hat sniping somehow, the cobra is a joke waste of tickets 90% of the time. Once 0.9 comes rolling in map lists will dramatically change and I can rejoice. :D
