The memory could not be "read"...what.

Post by Polka »

Happens to pretty much every game I play.
Image

Quite annoying since I can only play for some time before it happens, I have no idea what it is. Halp kthxbai.

ERROR help. "Memory could not be read"

It offers this as a fix, go and download/install this:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/ikernel.xml

Also, some say just simply reinstalling/getting Java on helps period.
http://www.java.com/en/

Maybe those will help?

I am not sure, but I think I have fixed the problem.

Now however every game I play will freeze after an amount of time and I have to restart the PC. I have tried in windowed mode, but there are no error messages.

Every gamer of PR? Or do you mean every game as in every physical game you own? What amount of RAM do you have? Try lowering texture settings to Medium?

I haven't got to try PR yet, blame punkbuster. But yeah, pretty much every game except for Hearts of Iron 2 (which is a pretty low spec game and the only game I can play currently). I have 1.5 GB of RAM, but I don't think the graphics could be the problem, at least it doesnt seem like it.

Hmmm PR causes that locking up and needing restart for some users and I think they end up having to either turn down settings to use less memory, or actually turn UP a setting[i think textures must be at medium or higher?] to stop the freezing.

Keep us posted. Im trying to think of what else it could be.

Have you updated your graphics drivers?

Playing PR at medium.

I think my drivers are update, but I'll get that checked. Aja.

edit: Drivers updated.

edit 2: And it did not help at all.

2 cents

Try increasing your page file

Control Panel > system > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory 'Change'

Set it to custom size and make the initial size the same as the Maximum size : 3000MB.

Also you cut off the DxDiag report. How much VRAM do you have?

Left out sound devices as I am guessing they dont really have much to do with this, will also try your suggestion.

edit: Did it. Or tried.

Dont tell me the amount of space left on the C drive could have been the problem.

Excellent sex. I shall now try and see if I can play any games for more than 10 minutes.

Tried TF2, seems to work, except being laggy as f***.

I would advise always ensuring you have a few gig free on your system drive even when your pagefile is fully utilised. If your system is reporting that it will only allocate space as it can to your pagefile you need to prepare yourself for a massively fragmented pagefile.

fix your pagefile min and max (in your case) and make sure your system is defragged before you create one that big, if it is already fragmented (which you will see when you attempt to defrag your machine) reduce it.

Aim for 15-20% diskspace available at all times, and also watch out for more than 1000 objects(files) in your system temp directory. If you have never had to clean these up before, you will need to.

All games fail except for Hearts of Iron 2, which barely has any system requirements.
