Sniper Squads- call it a day!
Really had such a bad experience with a sniper squad on Kashan Desert yesterday- Squads were made in the 1.5 min time allowance as normal, notably a sniper squad had not been made. The round started and there was the usual rush to the crates with a squad member of mine taking a sniper kit. Now I thought his was perfectly acceptable, and was happy at the thought of having a sniper ace in my squad.
However about 3 mins into the game, after setting up a FB in the hills surrounding the bunkers, a sniper squad suddenly materialised. It had two members, one of whom spawned at the main base and requested the one remaining sniper kit, and the other who tragically could not obtain a sniper kit due to kit limitation.
For the next 10mins a discussion ensued between the sniper squad and our squad sniper, via team chat. The former claiming that it was completely unacceptable that my team mate had the sniper kit and requested that he be kicked. This further aggregated me because we were countering heavy enemy resistance meanwhile the sniper squad was sitting safely at base crate hugging.
This seems totally unacceptable, but it proceeded to get worse. Luckily in the ensuing fire fight i managed to obtain an enemy sniper kit. I announced that this had happened via squad chat, mostly I have to say because I was chuffed. Anyway the sniper squad obviously didn't see my notice and then proceeded to accuse me of taking their sniper asset. To my relief my squad backed me up and told the bleeding sniper squad that I had an enemy kit.
This doesn't really seem to reflect the type of team play that is usually embraced in PR. I don't really like sniper squads anyway, but a sniper squad that appears late in the game and expects all its team members to have left the sniper kits alone so they are free to obtain them seems fairly presumptuous!
Anyway what can be done to stop this kind of thing?

An admin should have stepped in and kicked that sniper squad for disrupting the server and being whiners.
Best thing to do would be to ignore them 100%, but if an admin is present, explain clearly what the situation is to him

Ingnore them.
No need to argue if they call the admins; they'll get themselves kicked.

Some servers have rules on kits others don't but usually if the kit squad is made after the kit is taken then they have to wait. It all depends on the server really.

Happened to me once on Baracuda.
I found an enemy sniper an took his kit... about 4 or 5 minutes later, the sniper squad started accusing me for taking "their" sniper and that I should give it to them.
I joined the sniper squad, laughed real hard into the microphone before rejoining my squad again

Go and tell your master that we have been charged by God with a sacred quest. If he will give us food and shelter for the night, he can join us in our quest for the sniper kit!

Only one guy in a sniper squad should really have a sniper rifle anyway... The other is best to have an officer's kit, just ignore them and notify an admin of what's happening

Re: Sniper Squads- call it a day!
I hate the people who create those squads mostly justify the use of bad tactics and Noob behaviour.
Though i also hate the people who create CAS squads and then just go lone wolf in a very expensive air craft looking to pwn- And then because there practically flying blind with out any communication from there team they run straight into AA or into some bad ars$ elite unit and get there ars$ handed to them with no visible results to show for them self’s,
It difficult to find out what angers me more, mostly the fact that no one seems to realise that if you combine the too units in the same squad and get them talking, then throw in some infantry for some more eyes and maybe some perimeter security for the sniper you got a very good team going.
the Snipper and the infantry can guide the Cas and help avoid AA, and the sniper can do some thing useful for a change and use his laser to mark targets, or act as force recon for the section.

And if this guy has eye on that enemy AA, he can take out the user and laser the AA for CAS to take it out for good.RHYS4190 wrote: the Snipper and the infantry can guide the Cas and help avoid AA, and the sniper can do some thing useful for a change and use his laser to mark targets, or act as force recon for the section.
These good ''sniper'' squads are very rare. I often see sniper or two + Officer in CAS squad. Probably to get a large area of observation and laser possibilities for the aircraft.
I must have been lucky though, i haven't ran into such sniper squads that whine about not getting their kits, just because they showed up late to the game.

I think only assets can be reserved through a squad name (e.g. apc, cas, tank). Kits are free for all.
although would love to give snipers for the CAS squad, helps them a lot more than in normal infantry squad.

This confirmes by big hate towards snipers. Normally they dont bother me but sometimes they could be a real pain in the ***.

Re: Sniper Squads- call it a day!
A lot of "specialist" squads I have seen are guilty of some gross stupidity.
Frequently by deciding not to co-operate with the rest of the team and investigating some far-flung corner of the map miles from any useful objective.
As a commander, this irritates me an awful lot. As an SL, I see a waste of resources as an SM I just wish they'd be helping the team and do something useful rather than let everyone else get shot at.

I don't go so far as to make 'Sniper' squads, but when I am a sniper (albiet not usually in a normal squad), I find myself a lot more use to the team than 'sniper squads'.
All they seem to do is hang around miles away from civilisation and do nothing; sure they stay alive (...very rarely), but they get nothing done.
On the other hand, I get right into the action! If I was a British sniper on Basra, I get right into the city on my own; some real Metal Gear Solid sh*t, James Bonding it through the streets with my pistol, firing only if discovered; find a perch, take out some high value targets, scout for caches... After a period of time, or a few kills, or firing a few shots, move location undetected (and usually end up capping anyone who arrives in my OLD position looking for me)!

Re: Sniper Squads- call it a day!
Sniper squads can be very usefull if done corretly, they can slow down enemies, eleminate enemy squads, provide intel, guide the CAS... But I often see just a guy with a sniper kit in an infantry squad. Can anyone explain to me why are the snipers so popular in INF squads, it seems to me that they are useless. By the time your deviation decreases you will die and waste a restricted kit. Snipers are not for inf squads, thats why marksman exists.
Sniper is the most fun, and most usefull when in a 2 man sniper/spotter squad, which is what I sometimes play.
I hope that the new marksman rifle will inspire the INF squads to take that instead of the sniper, and leave that to sniper squads.
Dont get me wrong most of the time, guys in the so called "sniper squads" are useless, but some are really good and usefull.

Going in solo sniper in Al Basra city is like giving the insurgents a sniper kit. So what if you kill 15 insurgents, they are going to benefit so much more from that kit than the brits ever will when you eventually die. The British advantage relies on their long range firepower, the insurgent advantage relies on that they can die without loosing tickets. Giving the insurgents a sniper rifle is like giving a country the atomic bomb, it totally changes the power balance.Heskey wrote:I don't go so far as to make 'Sniper' squads, but when I am a sniper (albiet not usually in a normal squad), I find myself a lot more use to the team than 'sniper squads'.

Re: Sniper Squads- call it a day!
Yes Mav, DMR is actually far much more useful than sniper. Snipers ATM are seriously nerfed due to vets complaining on newbz. So therefore, DMR is currently more useful on the field, leave alone the manual and theory. It's about the soldier who handles the gun, not about the gun that is handled by the soldier.-.-Maverick-.- wrote:Sniper squads can be very usefull if done corretly, they can slow down enemies, eleminate enemy squads, provide intel, guide the CAS...
