Re: How do you feel about the snow map?? - Now publically available
I'm not sure I like all these 'wilderness' maps. Maps like this and Quin Ling that don't really have any focal objective. I don't see why anyone would have a huge battle over a couple of mountains and some fir trees to be honest, throw in a village or a satellite uplink or something and I'll reconsider.

it s a new diffrent gameplay... It means infantry firefights in 500 meters distance are normal.
it was pretty cool at the Event, but on a normal public server with non-full-teamplayers on both sides... it is just hard to play.
In my opinion one of the best maps for Mumble/event or PRT games, but it s to hard to play on a public server.

I completely disagree. Its the fact that there is only wilderness and nothing else that makes it so epic. Big parts of my own country is like this in the winter. If you want a reason for the battle you could always imagine that the Brits tried to sneak into China through the Himalayas and the Chinese caught them or something similar. Many historic battles are not about capturing a nearby objective but instead focus on annahilating the enemy to prevent invasion or securing routes of passage.Jedimushroom wrote:I'm not sure I like all these 'wilderness' maps. Many battles in many wars have been thought over plain wilderness without any other main objective other than to advance over that terrain, how is this any different?Jedimushroom wrote:I'm not sure I like all these 'wilderness' maps. That's why your country wasn't in the latest european wars, no reason to go there.
I agree with K4on, a high level of teamwork is needed, very difficult to play. An infantery squad on its own is pretty much lost. It's more interesting to flyboys than infantery, as target ranges are long, and terrain to cover is large.

actually hills, mountains and any kind of high ground are high priority spots, which allows you to control ground, hell just type "battle for hill" into search and find tonns of nameless hills, which are just numbers on mapJedimushroom wrote: I don't see why anyone would have a huge battle over a couple of mountains
seconded, not all countries are like center europe, where its hard to find decent forestBig parts of my own country is like this in the winter
in my country i would even say 98% of it is like that without anything except forest, fields and mountains
btw, maybe worth noting, APC bug happened on, people were lagging as hell when 1 Warrior got close to us
havent seen it for very long time.

It was cool but it would be better if there was a tiny a village or a random house placed out in the middle of nowhere.

its good but one problem was little space to land aircraft and the hills didn't help this as you often had to fly over the hills and then land about 100 M away while at 100 ALT above the ground xD

Re: How do you feel about the snow map?? - Now publically available
I had the same problem in the beginning as well, but after flying for three rounds yesterday I kinda figured it out. Each base has a valley that you should come in from. The british helis should come in from east and china from southeast. If you do that and come in low you can land without hovering or turning around in circles.killonsight95 wrote:its good but one problem was little space to land aircraft and the hills didn't help this as you often had to fly over the hills and then land about 100 M away while at 100 ALT above the ground xD

hence why I have said many times that I've only used materials that where already in BF2 (I used the "mud_wet" material since it was the closest one to snow) and if it was going to become an official map, we would need to make a new range of materials, effects, sounds and textures....Bringerof_D wrote:too wet...they need to change the sound effect from *swish swash swish swash* to *crunch crunch crunch crunch*

I love this map! Love the snowsuites on both teams they look awsome with graphics on high! Good positioning of mainflags and capturable flags. This epic map should replace Quinling!
Only con would be that the snow goes squish instead of crunch! But as was already mentioned that would take more time.
Excellent work on this map, especially for the amount of time spent!

YES! This map was awesome. Although I did see a few people complaining about the lack of maneuverability of the armor, but I guess that's what happens on snow.
I personally don't feel the need to hide behind the thick armor plating of a heavy vehicle to have fun so it was quite enjoyable.
Our squad was able to ride on top of a crate that was dropped... we rode it all the way down the mountain. Good times... great map.

Does anyone else want more jeeps instead of APCs?

Not me, I like to kill the APC´s with my HAT. An all jeep layer could be cool to add if its ever official though.Snazz wrote:Does anyone else want more jeeps instead of APCs?
I feel that the Jeeps and trucks are a bit unrealistic on this map. Wheeled vehicles blasting offroad in the snowy mountains is sorta almost impossible IRL if its not some kind of special vehicle. I dont know if its possible, but the tracked vehicles should move faster and the wheeled ones should move slower on this map.

Very beautiful map. Though I hate random forest fights more and more.

Re: How do you feel about operation snow storm? - Now publically available
as there is so much room why doesnt a chopper drop a crate 600m from a flag then a 4 man para team parachoote out and get to the crate to get the sl kit/ marksman/ medic/ LMG and then make the assault? would this help with the landing difficulty? I dont fly I usually squad up of lead inf squads. But I do think for any of the problems you see in this map theres a soloution or two. Its just different, people just need to adapt their own style to it.
Also if you defending - a fob or two are priority. So build trucks suffice for this..
