Bringing back extraction
Why was it ever removed? It was awesome! Will it ever be back?

Re: Bringing back extraction
Is this a suggestion or just a question?
I don't recall the reason given for removing the mode, but I would expect to see it return as part of the Private Security Contractor faction project.

Re: Bringing back extraction
It was removed because in its old incarnation, it didn't really work. It was either a really bottlenecked level [street] or those open ones where the VIP ended up just taking some obscure route to the end [I remember hugging the west side of this swampy map and just walking right through, no problems].
I'd like a waypoint based one, sort of like a reversed insurgency where the insurgents get 100m inaccurate markers of where the US/brit waypoints are and the objective is to get supplies to a remote part of the map and extract a soldier from the area (like a medivac) in which the insurgents/opforce either try to ambush in logical areas or use scouts + fast movers to attack the convoy.
I doubt it'd work as cool as it is playing out in my head, and I really wish I knew someone who made the insurgency mode to learn from them how to do the sort of things that are needed, in which case I'd try making it myself

Re: Bringing back extraction
If you are going to make a suggestion, especially if you are suggesting we bring back something we took out make a case for it. Why should the entire community just take your word for it that we need this in the game?
Make your case or this thread is getting locked.

Re: Bringing back extraction
It was removed because a) It didn't work all that well, it was pretty broken by later changes and b) there are plans to replace it with a "scenario" gamemode that would allow various types of victory/defeat conditions to be set - that would include extraction-type play. It's a while off though.
Ease up on him guys - especially as it's hardly a call for the Light 50 to be bought back or anything like that - it's a valid question and one that deserves an answer.

Thx for the explanation there Masaq, but where was anyone being harsh to him [except maybe the request for expansion on his question]?

Re: Bringing back extraction
I'd love to see extraction.. but if a "scenario" game-type is on its way, then lets wait for that instead of a broken game mode.

Re: Bringing back extraction
In extraction you either had to move a VIP or special kit from point A to B.Montana0008 wrote:What is extraction game mode? I heard it as in earlier versions.
There was an early version of Basrah where (then) USMC had to escort a VIP SUV from the palace to the airfield. Or on some other maps the coalition team had to move up to a certain point, like a crashed helicopter, pick up a pilot kit located there (similating rescue ops) and take him back to main.
Very cool if played right, and I hope they'll get to work on scenario anytime soon to put it back in.

Re: Bringing back extraction
I never got to play Extraction, but it always looked pretty cool. As for Psyrus' idea about a "Downed Pilot", i had an idea of something along those lines. at the begingin of the round, 1 player is randomly selected to be the downed pilot, and he spawns somewhere randomly on the map with the pilot kit, and he cannot change it. The Blufor, have to locate and extract him, while the Opfor have to "arrest" him, maybe with the zipcuffs from insurgency. To help the opfor out, they get a marker within X meters of his location every X minutes. If he stays in one spot, they're going to know it. For the blufor, maybe have it so that he can only speak with the commander and not show up on the map. It would promote the role of the commander and his use of the UAV.

It is a valid question, just not much of a suggestion.

Everyone on the forum acts like they know everything?
I don't see how we were unreasonable in responding to the OP.

Re: Bringing back extraction
Maybe we can have a scenario where the military needs to protect a contractor delivering stuff. (which for some reason escalates in a platoon sized battle).

Insurgents could have Motorbikes as fast movers.
