128 Player COOP servers

Are we going to see 128 slot servers in 0.9 release. As we know BF2 only supports 64 human player clients to connect to server, but BF2 allows 128 bots.

This basicly means we could have 128 player servers with 64 human players + 64 bots = 128 players.

Also it could be very cool to create new game modes. For example fight against insurgents in populated city where bots play role of normal citizens wandering around the city. And why not even AAS with half team as bots and other half as human. ;)

I just think how intensive battles are with 128 players. And it would probably give some boost for those biggest maps which feel so empty even with 64 player full server.

BF2 allows any number of bots. It just takes up a hell lot of CPU.

How much CPU power exactly? We are living in the quadcore era. Shouldn't be problem for decent a server hardware? Isn't it server which calculates the movements of bots not your computer? Since even my old pentium 3,2 ghz server can easily run full 64 player BF2142 server with 70% CPU load.

Hmm. I thought SP/COOP will be integrated to PR in 0.9. Which means we would have those hybrid servers with many human players and bots together?

Well, maybe I should've bought a new processor for christmas, cause I think if I try, I'm gonna be seeing a cloud of smoke coming from the top of my case.

I remember playing a mod with this feature in the past and it was pretty sweet. IMO it would be a nice feature to have in COOP if it was possibly; of course it would be an option it's not like you would have to play with that many bots :P

BF2 can't benefit from multiple processors. It does run on multicore systems, but there is no real life performance gain. Context switch from a core to another is actually a slight performance hit.

I agree, civi bots would be excellent, that's been a suggestion for a long time. It would be very interesting to have some servers testing 64 bots + players. Hopefully someone out there is up for it.

*Edit*

It just occurred to me that you can only have 54 squad members plus 1 commander per team. So you can really only have 32 players + 23 bots, unless bots are forced not to join squads.

AFAIK, the Civilan kit isn't available from playing a few maps on Insurgency in SP. Nobody had a empty hands. But if there was, I could just laugh at the masses of people throwing stones at us. Hence, this would make a utterly amazing zombie event.

As long as they don't take vehicles, special kits, etc, this could be an amusing gamemode. "Compstomp"
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.


The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

As good as civilian bots sound, you would have to take into consideration the intelligence of the BF2 bots. They would be running all over the place and I doubt civilians in RL would walk into an area with bullets flying all over the place.

As freakin awesome that would be, it would lag so much. I like it and I support. Civi bots on insurgent maps is the way to go imo.

there is no need to have more than 15 player civis since that'll be great AS LONG AS THEY HEAL and put hands up when getting shot of when an enemy look at them from under 100m and the bot can see them.
also adding bots on large maps for inf squads would be good as long as they do what the commander says

in this thread he asks for a tank commander well why not already have a bot in the gun position and the gunner may order him to shoot (driver would be abused with one manning)
