Helicopter training course for newbies...

Hi guys, now I might be new but the following training course has allready helped me immensely in getting a feel for the different choppers and how they react. The course itself is mostly low level flying practice with a bit of precision flying here and there.

So if you are new like me and want a relatively easy "standard course" to evaluate the choppers on check out this course.

so youve come up whit a route that everyone can make up for themselves... plus this routes too easy its allmost full level flying and no buildings or other things to dodge

Well it does say for newbies. Additionally there ain't alot of buildings on the training maps.

Mainly this was just to find a course that is easily repeatable so people can learn how that the different choppers behave when the conditions are more or less constant and try out a little bit of everything when flying them through that course.

I think that you should place emphasis on low level flying, evasion and landing. Any fool can tilt a joystick around to fly, but landing with precision takes some practice. Try landing in unique spots, and trying touch and go landings on hill, you would be suprised by how often they are used.

how can you expect someone to tell you how to hover? Do you mean from level flight to hover or from side etc....

Keep a constant throttle input (yup, advantage of a joystick) and keep making proportional (opposite to the way you drift) inputs to the collective, ie mouse or joystick.



Then do this for a long time.

Even better practice in a flight simulator, then there can be nop problem at all doing it in BF2.

Stone, I think you have a good route and a good mind to make a course to practice on. I usually just trace the outside and then inside of the "HESCO" fence at heli trainning.The better you get at it, the closer to the fence you can do it. That is a great way to get use to a heli. Another good idea is to get with some of the senior pilots on the server and go over some flight lessons.

Start out slow, slow is smooth and smooth will become fast. The same thing applies when you begin practicing attack dives and so on.

To hover with a mouse and keyboard:
1. feather the throttle untill torque reads 22% (about) and hold that throttle position by "tapping" the throttle up or down.
2. adjust the mouse by correcting only enough to see a reaction, then counter what ever reaction that has taken place. Try to think if you are moving forward- you only need to pull back on the mouse a little to see a reaction- so pull back a little and wait to see how far is "adjusts" you.

Joystick?
Neutralise the throttle and add as needed to gain +22% (about) torque. Leave the throttle alone.

Same as with mouse, only adjust a little and wait for the reaction, if the little adjustment wasnt enough adjust a little more and wait for the reaction.
