Sniper Squads- call it a day!

This. Snipers work in teams of two with one sniper and one spotter who uses a regular rifle. The spotter is there to protect the sniper and assist him. If there were only 2 guys they didn't need two sniper rifles.

The less people on an operation, the higher chance of success. I favor 4 man squads due to the fact I don't have to constantly micromanage, and the fact you only need an AR, a medic and a SUSAT/ACOG rifleman.

Hate to burst your bubble but using a spotter is quite useless in PR, if you turn up your sensitivity you can move the sniper around and constantly scan. If the sniper needs protecting from enemy fire, he is doing something wrong.

HOWEVER. It really does bug me to see snipers in infantry squads. It's not a squad weapon. Your squad took it before a sniper squad was made so bully for you, and Kashan is not exactly a great map for snipers anyway. In fact it's rather pointless with so little infantry on that map. I can't imagine snipers lasting long on that map.

Kashan is one of, if not the greatest sniping map on PR. Infantry squads reguarly comb the bunkers, and an officer going down from one shot brings not only fear, but the leadership of the squad is completly dead as he cannot see what is around him, plus reviving and healing + cover takes 2 minutes (round about).

2 minutes that means your tanks can push in, overwhelm, and so forth. Its the butterfly effect really.

Did I mention that the officer kit is meant for LEADING a squad while sniper is meant for taking out high value targets and most of all, lasing? There is nothing more powerful than an apache who hangs back over the US main waiting for a lase, and a sniper in the mountains who can get lases on the BMPs and T-72s west of bunkers.

So in fact I myself get bugged by snipers in infantry squads when the marksman is a perfectly good rifle and because snipers are to be used as described above.

Like I have said before, like water vidya gamerz follow the path of least resistance, people in CoD4 used the P90 because it killed quickly and got the job done without skill input, as the 1887's in MW2.

The sniper gets the job done, if people like our friend above are getting kills and stopping the squad from wiping, then I think nexttime I think of getting the M14, I'll get an M24 instead.

having a sniper as your marksmen in your squad is also nice seeing as it is a 1 hit kill weapon on insurgents.

Longer settle time but its easier to take targets out if you can hit them in the chest and kill them.

I can't kill someone on the move in the head usually, the 90+ ping contributes and so does the game engine, but if i can aim for their chest i can hit them if they are running from left to right vice versa.

I also snipe alot, but I have to admit that alot of snipers are a useless bunch and even I fuck up sometime.
If I have a Sniper squad it will look like this, preferably 2 People (Officer + Sniper) or max 3 people ( + Medic).
The officer grabs an ironsights rifle since his job isn't to engage distance targets, but take out enemies that stray to close.

The way I play, and the way most people should, is that your never fire unless you have a good shot and it helps your team. The idea being that you don't fire at everything you see, but pick targets like HAT kits trying to take a shot at your armor or someone manning a field cannon. Enemy snipers are also a good target as are spotters for TOWs etc.
The rest of the squad shouldn't be firing at all, but instead be looking around for targets.
Most important is that anything you see needs to be passed on to the cmdr or at least nearby squads.

On Fools Road for example, if you know the spots where the spandrels like to hide, you can give your tanks advance warnings by watching those spots, or maybe even take out the driver if he got out and is spotting. This also works great on tanks that are hiding as the driver either gets out or gets on the gun on top. This makes him a great target for a sniper shot, meaning that the tank now doesn't have a driver. If you are lucky, the gunner will switch to the driver seat, meaning the tank is now defenseless for HATS, TOWS or other armor to take him out.

So the sniper team isn't supposed to be out there 1337 lone wolfing. its supposed to give intel and take out important targets at the right time.

And as for the story that started all this, you had the sniper kit before they started, so sucks to be them.

Oh, and as for snipers in squads, they can be very useful, but I do get sick and tired of SMs grabbing them without asking me.

Giving the insurgents a sniper rifle is like giving a country the atomic bomb, it totally changes the power balance.

Well isnt it a perfect example of why Snipers should be forbiden?

That is the problem anyone or malmost anyone taking a sniper kit think they are god sent soldiers in the gamer and in real life and are unable to realize how much damage they are doing to the team.

they think all their actions are good cool and useful... and if aver the team looses the match or they get killed well... that is the rest of the team fault...

indeed there should be a game mode called protect the sniper... where 1 is a sniper and the other 31 players need to scort him

Happened to me once on Baracuda.
I found an enemy sniper an took his kit... about 4 or 5 minutes later, the sniper squad started accusing me for taking "their" sniper and that I should give it to them.

I joined the sniper squad, laughed real hard into the microphone before rejoining my squad again

I wish that everysniper could work togheter with all the team. In the first video in Muttrah, we were spotting for the cobra and by TS I was giving intel to my friends. Too bad we rarely see it, just 5 guys arging to have the sniper kit because he is the 1337 SNIPERZORSLAZERSLOLOLOL. Grr, God, how I hate these players.

Sniper teams should be part of a structured web of combat. They should not be used to get kills and treated like an normal rifleman. A sniper team is an asset which should be deployed and used to the advantage of the team, not the sniper or sniper squad. When you pick up a sniper rifle and move out of the spawn you are now responsible for other squads, and passing on info to assist those squads. I agree that the guys that were hugging the crates should have been kicked, your sniper was helping your squad, not themselves.

thats one of the few bad things about pr, the overwhelming amount of crybabys. I had someone call the admin on me because someone took thier btr and i hopped in for a ride as passenger, and of course being the sq leader it showed my squad number on the back of the apc lol. I actually hopped out instead of dealing with it because it seems most of the admins are too quick with the kick button. but i cant stand crybabys!!

most sniper squads i encounter dont hit jack through out the entire round, maybe the occasional straggler. only one time did i encounter an actual usefull sniper squad they were actually relaying info to squad lead, they scored only 3 kills but lased a lot of targets and gave us a heads up so many times just before we walked into an ambush or were about to be approached by an APC

Yup most of them are useless, but some are very good. If you check my sig pic you will see the score I did with my clanmate who was acting as a spotter. I hope that 0.9 will enhance the marksman rifle so that the inf squads leave the sniper to sniper squads.

Theres some big chanches coming for it in 0.9 including depoyable mode but i don't think thats gonna keep the 'nilla newbs off the sniper kit

i think the sniper squads should use both snipers but not at the same time.. Get the other guy to get an officer kit and spot for you and report targets to the other big guns instead of trying to bag the most kills within the squad

but it is a lot of fun to use a hat and a sniper together!

Well I personally make sure to hunt down anyone who joins my squad just for a sniper kit then leave, shoot them up, and leave them to bleed out slowly and thus ruining their experience.

But on the second part is why do snipers always take the high spots? (or why do I always find them on the high spots) Sure they can see everything but then everything can see them.

Which makes for a fun countersniping since all i have to do is pull out my binoculars, zero in, switch to my rifle without moving the mouse, wait five seconds and he should be wounded or dead since snipers rarely move.

Really can't go whit the idea of shooting everyone who jumps in ur squad, takes a sniper kit and leaves because you'll just lose the kit and get a TK.

And snipers should take high points where they can see but are hard to be seen, and not on the hilltops where they can be seen towards the sky-line in the horizon.

@rampo: Forbidden zones if i ever get a sniper rifle - Mountain/hill tops, roof tops, top floor of a high building, only set of trees in the entire city...(lol mutrah, you know which set of trees )

points of interest - Second or 3rd floor of a high building, mid section of a thick tree covered hill/mountain side (snipe in between the leaves)

Not at all.

Just because a gun has bipods doesn't mean it's designed to fire in full automatic at long distance with a stable platform.

Well realisticly ingame you may choose a spot and not think about it but when you choose a spot your going to adapt to the shooting enviorment. Your going to think about the target, the weapon the target is using, the number of targets, how visable you are, the position of other personel and units on the battlefield, and other factors that go into such a choice. You may not directly think about it, but it is going through your mind.
