So after my old system went poof I ordered a new board and it arrived. It is an asus M4a78 pro with a phenom X3 720 cpu and 2 2 gig ram modules.
The system is windows xp for the time being.
When I fired it up, it made it to the loading screen, but before you can even see the loading bar, a bluescreen pops up for a splitsecond and the system reboots.
Soo I tried a repair installation. After all the files have been copied it progresses to the XP loading screen, the loading bar is visible for a while doing its thing and then I get an error message for a splitsecond again and the system reboots.
update: After loading up an old image, it still wont load windows, however I can use the safety mode.
I wanted to install the asus dvd to see if missing drivers would make windows happy, however for some reason it wont let me access the cd.
New board old install fresh problems.

Re: New board old install fresh problems.
Have you tried to run with only 1 ram module? I am not sure but I thought xp32bit doesn't like 4gbs installed? I am not sure though, I have been told both are true, that you can run with 4gbs but it only detects 3.5 or you can't run with 4 in at all. Anyways worth a try at least. Also try each ram module in only one ram slot at a time.

Chipset drivers missing, most likely. Or its trying to pull the old chipset drivers for the new board, which isn't working.
Open the device manager and see if there are any yellow "?"s. If so, see if you can put the drivers on a thumb drive and access them that way from safe mode.
